Number of gun owners in the US: 80,000,000.

Number of accidental gun deaths per year (all age groups) 1,500.

Accidental deaths per gun owner: 0. 0000188

A couple of questions:

1. How is the number of gun owners determined? I suspect this number is way low.

2. Define 'accidental'. What is the TOTAL number of gun deaths per year (excluding self-defense & 'clean' police shootings)? I suspect this number is considerbly higher than 1500.

Does this change the 'accidental' deaths per owner? I don't know but I seriously question the data used to calculate this statistic.

NVR FNSH,

The whole piece is "tongue in cheek". It wasn't meant to be statistically correct and precise. Lighten up. ;) :D

Ramboy,

I know it is a tongue in cheeck piece but this same 'statistic' was thrown out in the Hide your handgun thread last week.

Physician, heal thyself!

'Course how many of those deaths (they're called uh-oh's in medical school) are attributable to residents in the 36th hour of their 40-hour shift?? Gimme the doc whose got grass stains from the 16th hole or is just washing the fish scales off his/her hands!!;) ;) "A rested mind will the grave wound bind!!"
