Just picked up a used '06 2500 Extended Cab Laramie w/ 46k miles. I noticed that it is quiter than my '05 3500 Extneded Cab LWB, but it sure vibrates more at idle. So much so that it rattles my guts. Doesn't sound or feel like it's miss-firing. Nor does seem lacking in accelleration power. I suspect I got to get this fixed seeing's how I bought it for my wife... Anyone hear about bad motor mounts, or other vibration related causes/issues w/ '06 model year machines?

Is it an automatic or a manual? Could be transmission related, especially if the previous owner added power and didn't bother upgrading transmissions.

Ryan,

Appreciate the reply... It's and auto. Pretty sure previous owner didn't do any power adds... Nor did he change transmission fluid. But when I changed fluid/filter, no exessive metal or burnt fluid. Seeing's how the movement is more lateral than a general shake, my initial thoughts is/are dirty injector(s), maybe stressed/cracked motor mount, or a harmonic balancer that may have lost a bolt or two... can't check any of the above 'till it comes back from getting front axle seal replaced though. Just thought I'd throw out the request to see if others had same/similar symptoms for '06's.

harmonic balancer that may have lost a bolt or two...

That's a good idea, although I doubt it would cause a severe vibration. I would expect the crank position sensor to give faulty readings first, which would lead you toward the balancer.

A left/right vibration would be very strange for an inline engine. Makes me suspect a problem from the flywheel back rather than internal. I'm not sure an injector bad enough to cause a major vibration at idle wouldn't have already melted its piston.

Ryan

Not necessarily Ryan. Mine shakes pretty good in the mornings when the injector sticks closed. How do I know it's closed? My egt gauge tells me so. I wouldn't call it gut-shaking, but it does shake pretty good.

What about one stuck closed? It would act like a miss...

When I had my latest deal with injectors, one hung open and caused the entire truck to shale...

Wow, I guess I never considered the left/right shaking from a hung injector. Wouldn't have thought it would be that bad.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the opinions/thoughts. I'll dig into in another few days and if I find anything, I'll post it up.

Cheeers!

Pour in a bottle of Diesel Kleen or Meaner Power cleaner and take it out for a long hard drive. Interstate speed or better. If that doesn't do the trick check the harmonic balancer. Mine failed at approx 104K.

I went over a boulder with mine and slightly bent the cross brace that supports the transmission... . Supposedly this knocked the transmission out of alignment just enough to make it vibrate, but only within certain rpm ranges.

Just another idea.....
