I need a quick answer to this one. I now own a 2001. 5 2500 QC LB 4x4. It is equiped with the trailer tow package and the camper package. I need to know the gross capacity of this truck. I'm trying to compare the capacity of this truck to a 2004 3500 QC SB 4x4 that I'm to pick up from the dealer tomorrow. I ordered the 2004 6 weeks ago, and it's now here and ready to pick up. I'm having second thoughts about the purchase, and the towing specs are the key factor.

I need to clarify my question listed on the proceeding post. I need to know how much the GVWR is raised by the additioned of the trailer tow package and the camper package. Thanks in advance.

The short answer is No. GVWR is 8800 regardless of the camper and tow packages.

The GCWR for the 2500 depends on engine, transmission and gear ratio options you select. These are for 2002 but should be the same for the '01. 5's. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't say the truck couldn't handle more as most trucks on here pull or haul more than they are rated for. Your state can always get you if you are overloaded especially in an accident.

There are so many variables the factories consider before giving a vehicle a GVWR or GCWR, some mechanical, some structural, some regulatory (i. e. GVWR 10,000+) and some liability.

One of the magazine articles addressed/talked about this issue but I cannot remember the issue number. Heck the 2500 and 3500 share alot of the same parts and the ratings are quite different.

Bottom line, a lot is considered in making the weight ratings and once they are placed on the vehicle you cannot change it no matter what we do.
