My dad has a 2006 2500 Diesel, auto, QC, 4x4. We are trying to figure out what the ACTUAL payload capacity is but Dodge sure doesn't make it easy.

Both the Dodge website and Edmunds list the maximum payload at 2020 but that only takes a manual transmission with a Hemi into consideration.

Anybody know what the ACTUAL maximum payload is for my Dad's truck? Dodge's website lists N/A next to the numbers for Diesel with auto.

Thanks

You did not say whether you had a long or short bed. GVW on 2500 is 9000#s. Your truck weighs about 7500#s. You do the math.

Did your dad get a brochure with that truck when he purchased it? Pay loads are published in the brochure and I believe that they are also published in the owners guide.

On my 02 Dodge the payload capacity was listed around 2200 lbs in the literature supplied by Dodge. My GVWR is 8800 lbs. I went and had it weighed at a CAT scale (Full tank & Snugtop Campershell installed) and I weighed in at 7300 lbs. Add 2 passengers at 150 lbs ea. and I'm up to 7600 lbs. PAYLOAD capacity is in reality ONLY 1200 lbs before exceeding GVWR of 8800 lbs.

Bottom line... I think best to get it weighed if these payload values are critical to you.

Actually a std cab, long bed, 4wd weighs 7000#s. The payload is around 2k for a 2500 (3/4 ton??)... which is pretty good if you ask me.

Thanks Klenger for clearing that up. My truck with the 6 speed scales in at 7210 with a full tank of gas. His auto is prob 200 lbs lighter so if he is lucky he might have 1800 lbs, with just him in it.
