here are some pics of the fog conversion i did last week. my only complaint is that the fogs are floods not driving lights. they light up alot of top and side.

also replaced side markers with clear lens bulbs instead of orange.

headlights are sylvania silverstar.

WOW!!!:--) WIth just the headlights on the truck is invisible!!! :D

Seriously though, did you have to remove the headlamp to replace the headlamp bulbs?

I have some PIAAs that I need to install, but the Service manual says to remove headlamp assembly to do it and I haven't taken a good look at the headlamp yet to see if that's 100% true.

yes you do...

the headlight assembly has to be removed, but it is fairly easy. There are three 10mm screw-bolts and two plastic trim screws.

h. i. d conversion is a one off adaptation by a very talented friend of mine who works at a body shop. he took my existing fogs, and adapted the lights from a bimmer. the lights arent perfect, but the install is. it looks like factory.

mr plow are the fogs set up as constant-on or as high-beams only? In other words can oncoming traffic tolerate them being illuminated?

mr plow, your fog light conversion to HID blows me away! (even with the diffusion of the fog lens).

The good thing is, glass lenses should be able to take the heat, etc.

Down here where we have an over-population of deer, I need more light, was spoiled by my '01 with Sport lamps and a BriteBox.

Think your guy would put a few of these BMW-modified kits together for forum members?

Also, it's interesting to look closely at the stock lamp assemblies. Seems like DC set them up for a two-bulb operation and then dumped the turn-signal light in where a second bulb would have gone.....

Anyway, let us know!

Thanks.

i will check...

heat isnt usually a problem form these bulbs as they brun at a max equiv. of 35 watts, however the heat problem does lie at the base of the bulb wihc did indeed begin to melt the back housing of the foglight itself. We solved that problem by simply making the housing bigger. Voila.

These bulbs will sure as heck light up a ot around you and infront of you. I havent really had a chance to use them in a completely dark situation yet, but when i do, i will let you know.

The turn signals use 4157nak bulbs. I simply pulled the orange bulbs out, and replaced them with a clear 3157 bulb as the turn signal lens itself is orange anyways.

I am constantly fiddling with them, and will report back with any updates.

later.
