I'm posting this question on behalf of my brother-in-law. He is about ready to buy a real truck. He might be making the deal tomorrow, so I told him I would post this question tonight. The truck he is looking for is basicly the same as mine, but the dealers aren't having much luck finding one with 3. 55 gears. He's worried about the 4. 10's affecting fuel mileage. He won't be towing very heavy 5000-7000lbs max. With my mods. driving a steady 65mph on the highway I can get 20-21mpg, and about 17-19 mixed driving. He said that he might be interested in something like an EZ but that's about it for now. I told him to expect 1-2mpg less. Is this accurate? Thanks for the help. ;)

My truck is not an HO but... .

I'm averaging around 15. 5 mpg over 43k miles. The best I've done is 17mpg on the interstate at a steady 2000 rpm which is only 66 mph in my case. Note that I run 315/75s w/4. 10s

With the Comp used as an EZ, big tires and lift, and generally driving too fast, I get 17mpg all around. 30K on the odometer. I *think* I could be pushing 20mpg on the highway if I could keep it at a steady 65mph.

I don't have an HO but I get 17-18 mixed and 21-22 on the Colorado passes with 4. 10's and an auto. Best ever was 23. 4 mpg

Maybe 3-4 mpg less depending on the application of the right foot.

~14-16 around town

~18-19 on the road empty @ 65mph (2100rpm)

However larger (as in taller) tires will help.

AVG. 15 IN THE CITY. ND I HAD 19. 6 ON HIGH WAY 65MPH.

THATS WITH AN EXTRA 2000LBS ALL THE TIME.

HO WITH 4:10s . 13,000 MILES SO FAR

IM VERY HAPPY. ND ALL HAND CALCULATED.

ED :)

I'm avg. right now with the air conditioning on full blast all of the time 15 mpg around town. On my last highway trip averaging between 60-65 mph I got 19mpg. Hope that helps.

MPG

MY 2001 3500 HO with 4. 10s is very speed sensitive.

50-55 = 19-20 MPG

60-65 = 17-18

70-75 = 12-14

If I set the cruise at 65 I will get 17 with out a head wind.

Bob

You did not say if he was getting an auto or a Manual. The final ratios are quite different and I would fo for the 4:10s with the auto and the 3:54s with the 5 speed, unless he will put on bigger tires, in which case I would stick with the 4:10s.

fuel mileage with 345 gears

my truck is 4 years old this month . i have always fuel at the same card lock . i keep track of all fuel used and milage . i use an electronic calcuator programmed to convert from kilometers and liters to imperial gallons and miles. from fall to spring mileage is 24 to 25 , summer 26 to 28 . truck is stock except for k&n . highest mileage i have seen on long run with no head wind was 29. 6. truek weighs 6610 lbs. with full fuel and 2 0n board. now have 208000 km. only problem with engine 2 lift pumps. :) :) :) Oo. Oo. Oo.

I've got a 4. 10 geared H. O. 2002 and I average 19 driving sensably and 16 when my foot is in it. The truck still gets 16 when I am towing ( 8300 lbs. )at 65 to 70 mph.

I have a 2002 4wd 6 speed H. O. , quad cab long box with 4. 10's and I've been averaging 19 mpg in a 70/30 hwy/city mixed driving with 16,000 miles on the truck. At about 10,000 miles it started to improve from 15-16 mpg. My wife gets about 17. 5 mpg with a 50/50 hwy/city mix.

I have a 2001 3500 4x4 6 speed H. O. with 4. 10. I get about 17. 5 with 60/40 (hw/city). I am driving it like an blue haired old lady though. When I drive it hard, my mileage drops to about 16.
