Since I wasn't able to unload my old H1C in the classifieds, I'm going to turn it into my little frankenstein project.

I've got it completely apart, and I've removed the worn out bearings.

Where is a good place to get a rebuild kit for these things, and what is it going to cost me?

I've heard of "updated bearings" are these personally modified bearings or different ones from Holset? I've heard drilling the lubrication holes a little helps.

Any other tips? I'm going to have to review my earlier thread to remember what I need to modify to turn it into a 35/40 hybrid for my twins.

Also, anyone want an 18. 5cm housing?

I had a friend awhile back that when I sold him my 16cm housing screwed up his turbo. He said he could have got a rebuild kit thru DC pretty reasonably but he ended up getting a used one for around $150 and putting the 16cm housing and compressor housing on it.

I got a rebuilt kit thru a local heavy truck parts store. Anyplace that can get Holset products can get a rebuild kit.

I think I paid $85 for mine 2 years a go... I think the price I paid was a little high, but I didn't feel like shopping.

Try Gomers?? High Tech Turbo?

I was told to mark the compressor nut, shaft, and wheel for orientation prior to disassembly and put it back that way when you re-assemble... for balance.

But them others have said it doesn't matter.

BTW I never did rebuild mine because it was toasted inside so I still have the kit... to build my franken-turbo.

I have rebuilt a couple of Holset 3LDs though and it's pretty easy work.

You probably already know this, but prime the rebuilt turbo good with oil and before you start up, and don't hammer it for a few days.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I didn't mark my old turbo after fooling with it, and it made over 40psi without flying apart... so I'm going to believe that it's no biggy. I'm not going to be putting the same inducer back in anyways. I would assume that the parts are balanced individually, so the way they go back together shouldn't matter? Or at least that's the way I would do it.

I could just go get a used turbo, but I'd wrather learn about this one by tearing it to pieces. :D It really is very simple inside there...

hey cb, there is a rebuild kit for holset on ebay right now. the person thinks it's for a ford, but there is a part # you can run and see whether or not it really is. (i didn't know fords used holset)

CB Parker

I've got a brand new, not rebuilt, H1E that you could use to make a hybrid for 300. 00. SteveinAZ

Unfortunately, other endeavors have taken my funding away... so the actually purchase of the kit will have to wait...

But as for this JR character... who is he?
