I am looking for a machine shop that can open up the center hole of the Hummer H2 wheels without having to take the tires off the rims. Looking in Riverside/LA basin region or Livermore/SF Bay Area. I have found several shops that will do the wheels without the tires, but would like to save the hassel of getting the tires removed then re-mounted and balanced again.

Hello out there... so far, Quality Machine Shop in Ventura is the only response and they can'e do it with the tires mounted. Isn't anyone in the LA Basin/Inland Empire running the H2 Wheels? If so, where did you get the hole enlarged?

Thank you,

Mickey

when i had mine done the guy said he would do them with the tires on but said he couldent garentee the rim was flat to the table so the bore could go down crocked and i would be better to dismount the tires so he could clamp the rim directly to the table to assure a stright true bore

Machine Shop and balancing options

I found Precision Technologies, a machine shop here in Livermore CA, that opened the center holes of my 6 H2 wheels. Did a real nice job, precise hole and chamfered inside and out. Talked me out of doing it with the tires mounted, said he wanted the wheel flat on the table. Local Big O dismounted the tires for free! Thay said they'd get me when I wanted them mounted...

Now my big decission, regular balance weights or try balancing beads? I really like the idea of balancing beads but, even after reading the product web sites, don't understand why/how they work.

I tried the balancing beads and wasn't really impressed... . Sometimes they worked great but other times they were really out of balance. When the were dismounted the bag was still pretty much intact inside the wheel. It said it would dissolve but mine was still pretty big. I think this was keeping the beads in a group sometimes causing the out of balance problem.
