Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) H2E better or worse than HX 35?

I am curious from you guys out there in the know. What would a H2E do for me? Step up or step down? I ask this because I have an opportunity to get my grubby little hands on one and if the censous here is that it is worth it I will snagg that little bugger.

Just my $. 02... Unless you have lots of fuel to turn it, you will probably be unhappy with the lag. It's a big turbo meant for the over 450 HP crowd. Couldn't read you HP potential, but unless your hx35 EGTs are REAALLY toasty, look for a more reasonable sized turbo. A post like this should bring a lot of good input, good luck, and hang on!

Well maybe i didnt speak clearly enough I can get my grubby little hands on this MAYBE for NOTHING. And if I can get my 3500 sold so I can buy the 2500 97 12v I want it will be between 450-500 Shortly thereafter.

Russell something to consider also is will you still be able to use your BRAND NEW BD BRAKE

Well, that DOES complicate the issue doesn't it? Since the price is right, what do you have to loose? You will need an adapter for the ATS manifold you'll be buying, (the H2E exhaust housing is larger than the hx35). The H2E was supposed to be a pretty bullet proof turbo, and if this one is used, should prove to be. (my NEW one wasn't). Build up your '97 and swap out the H2E down the road if need be. Until you get the fueling ... what HEBER said.

The H2e is one tough turbo!! It is slow spooling tho. If you have a manual trans truck you can drive around it. Its limit is 65 pounds of boost but it takes TONS of fuel to get that high. I have two customers running the H2e that have in the past blown up turbos. It has lived through them!!!

I have thought of that already and if I cant find someone that will trade me for a remote mount I will just have to sell it. . which sucks cause I love that thing but you gotta do what you gotta do.



What modifications will be needed to make a change like that? I understand that the manifold will not just mate up, but is an adapter something that can be bought or is it something I need to make?

You will need to get an adapter plate and a different flange and clamp for the turbo. If you have a hx40 down-pipe you can just cut the flange off from it. If not you will need to get two 4" 45* exhaust elbows and fab them into a down-pipe.

I'm not to awful worried about the exhaust really cause there already is one on it. The one I have an oportunity to get ahold of is on an engine already from a truck that was wrecked a month ago. So i figured I could just fab that exhaust a little to fit my needs. Correct me if I'm wrong.
