With all the HX40 woes of late, I wonder if the H2E should be given some more consideration?? I know it is better suited for those BOMBed a little more than HX40 entry-level leagers, but many on this forum are running the fueling and HP levels that should work well with this turbo.

After these posts introducing the H2E, I expected it to take off a little better than it did. I don't know how expensive the H2E 17cm is, but considering the problems and risks with the HX40, why not spend a little more for a turbo that should hold more promise for durability? Reading back to these old threads, it looks like a properly prepped H2E will be quite drivable and responsive. I think at least it's worth more consideration in light of the HX40 failures many have experienced.

I wouldn't recommend the H2E unless the engine is putting out over 500 hp on #2 diesel. It is significantly bigger than the HX40, both in terms of airflow requirements and in terms of physical size. To use it you also need a fairly complex adapter for the exhaust manifold, and other custom stuff. It also takes rpm to make a small B engine mimic the airflow of a bigger engine at low rpm.

I don't think that a lot of board members are over 500 hp (on the dyno) on #2. Maybe it's a good thing that not many have spent the money to try this turbo.

Vaughn, don't limit yourself with the H2E. It is an older turbo and there are many other choices. You are probably going to have to get an adaptor made (most machine shops) and if that's the case, you have many other turbos to select from.
Holset has been kind enough to discuss my airflow needs with me and I am sure other turbo manufacturers would be willing to do the same. Good luck.

Joe & Stack'd, I thought there was a reason the H2E wasn't as "popular" as the HX40 but couldn't remember what it was. Forgot about the matchup problem. I was thinking the H2E was not a lot larger than the HX40.

I am running an H2E-17 on my 96 5 spd. Absolutely no bottom end, but from 2500-4000 RPM the truck pulls like a late sixties Hemi. I got mine from Piers, who had an adapter plate machined for the stock, or ATS manifold, such as mine. I am preparing to install one of Piers' new HX-35 turbos along with the H2E, to see if I can achieve quicker spool up times, that is as soon as he can build one for me.
