Wonder if theres anyay i can get into the 48re and hack the shift points and change what goes on and when... I hate how it floats in and out of gears, i really cant stand it... .

You need to call DTT and ask for a valvebody.

The problems will go away.

Or you can get a Transgo kit and spend the next few months under your truck.

My advise is to do it once.

X... you've mentioned in more than one post here recently about how it "floats" in and out of gears? Maybe it's just your particular transmission... or your driving style??

My 48RE holds gears just fine... in fact it holds them so well that unless I stomp the gas to make it downshift... . OR am close to a normal shift point (so it shifts up or down on it's own) it doesn;t shift abnormally AT ALL. And considering it's virtually impossible to 'lug' the cummins I'd say it shifts downright beautiful since it DOESN'T shift when it shouldn't.

IF yours indeed IS doing what you say (of course once it;s back from the repairs) have it checked... . just a thought... .

I know what XcumminsX is talking about. If a flea farts in my cab, that's all the extra peddle pressure it takes to make it downshift. If I'm not heavy on the peddle, the transmission will promptly realize that the truck's moving too fast to be in that gear, and then immediately jump back to the gear it was in. If I floor it too hard to pass someone, it'll jump to the lower gear and just sit in the lane screaming at max RPM until I completely let up on the throttle. As far as upshifting, it acts exactly like the early 3rd gens did before the TSB that corrected the excessive delay in shifting to OD and locking the TC. As much time as this transmission spends gear-hopping it'll die the day the warrenty expires. Then it'll be DTT or ATS time :D ...

Mine did the same. I took it to the dealer and they reflashed the transmission. all is good now. may want to give that a whirl

I don't have any problems at all with my 48re. I have been towing heavy and pullin up a mild hill in OD and it wont downshift unless I put the pedal down.

My dad's 2001 RAM 1500 would bang the rev limiter all the time. They said it was "NORMAL" About 6 months later, they reflashed the computer and it works great now...

Mine is like Bouncy. Mild hills pulling 6500lb boat the transmission will hold OD until around 1400, unless I get into the throttle. I have had it lock-unlock and lock again within 2-3 seconds like it could make up its mind. But I was mashing the pedal as it went into lockup, so I think that confused it. BTW, when we bought the truck we test drove the duramax, and the allison would do the same thing, hunt for a gear while towing.
