I left work yesterday, went one mile to the front gate and pulled up to the stop sigh to turn left when the truck cutoff before I got stopped. I pulled the Smarty out and it showed no codes. Changed to the stock program and nothing different. Went back to SW 1, still no change.

The truck would turn over fine but never busted off. Fuel Pressure was 19 psi when the FASS was running. Drained the filter, cracked the low pressure side line and then one injector line. All three had fuel while trying to crank. A few times while it would prime back up the FASS was at 5 psi for a few seconds the 10 then back to normal. This was only after I cracked the fuel lines.

Unplugged the Edge Box, no go. After about an hour we tried pulling the truck back to the parking area to sit over night. I tried one last time and she busted right off like nothing was wrong. Still no codes.

It acted like an air purge as if I had just changed the injectors except with no sputter or spitting.

Any Ideas? I'm sure if it happened once it could happen again.

Thanks

Im not sure but I had a hard start and some times it would fire right off the stall after several seconds. I kept chassing a fuel problem only after replacing the crank sensor does it seem ok. I never got a code for the crank sensor from this problem. I did get a code if I did not let the truck warm up alot then the tach would act very erratic... George

I've never check it. How do you know if it is getting a signal? I adjusted the APPS to a voltage just a bit higher then spec. But I won't know how to repeat the problem.

Had the same thing happen to me about a week ago. Shortly after leaving work, I prepared to stop for a red light and the truck just died, I was only going about 10 mph, once stopped completely, the truck started right back up. Hasn't happened again, but is in the back of my mind while traveling down the freeway at 70 mph.

sometimes aftermarket injectors can cause the same symptoms under the right circumstances.

usually air in the lines

Thanks Bob,

I've had these Mach 3s for the last 40K miles and it’s never done it before. I guess there is a first time for everything. I haven’t driven it any so I'm not sure if it will do it again.

Has anyone had the FASS filter clog in less then 10K? But even still when I cracked the lines I got plenty of fuel.

Downshifted, and the died!

My wife's 2000 4x4, quad, shortbed, 5 speed, left her sit after downshifting for traffic. When she went for the go pedal, the tach dropped to zero, and the get up and go was already gone! Truck turns over like it wants to start, but just doesn't fire. Checked the fuses and switched some relays in and out, but still no luck in starting. Truck is now sitting at the truck garage, waiting for an opening. Any ideas to pass along to the mechanics would help. Truck is stock, and has had nothing done to it since last oil change.

I know one thing i keep a can of starting fluid with me now at all times. I had to walk back to the shop not long ago. A truck i was working on done me the same way. So now when i go for a test drive i carry a can with me and i keep a can in my own 2 trucks at all times. I know if you make a hard pass and lift off the pedal fast to idle some times the engine will die and will not start back with out starting fluid or cracking the lines. If its a 5 or 6spd and your still rolling dump the clutch to fire it back.

That was one lucky cat!!!

It hasn't done it again, YET. I just catch smack from the guys at work all the time and things like this don't help. I just want a truck that runs and shifts and I just can't seem to get there. Maybe one day a little birdie will show me the problem.

Any words on the FASS filter needing to be replaced from anyone?

Scotty, Have you checked the codes on your wife’s truck to see if the VP44 went? I know mine had a few "no power/dead pedal" episodes for about a year before I replaced the pump. I know you said yours just shut off and didn't start back up. Not sure if it could be the same problem. Good Luck.

Mine or Scotty's?

I have two Interstate D31s that are less then a year old. When I tried to crank the truck for an hour they never slowed down a bit. When running, the alternator stays around 13. 6-14V. Is this what you are asking?

Yes, seems good then. As you were, carry on. :)

if the fuel module is messed up could you have an empty tank and not know it?

As for the batteries, I do not know how old they are, but they spin the starter quite readily. Charging system checked last summer, and volt meter shows just shy of 14 volts. Fuel tank is about half full.

480Ruger: Took the truck directly to mechanic without checking anything because: 1. Have no time to mess with it now.

2. Figured I would be in over my head quickly.

3. Weather forecast for the open garage was 1 to 2 inches of rain!
