OK guys, I know many of us have read the horror stories of an injector sticking and filling the oil pan with diesel fuel. Here is one more...

I was wanting to send out my injectors to have them checked and Flux nozzles put on, but I couldn't have the truck down, so I decided to buy a slightly used set of injectors from someone on another forum as he said they worked perfectly and had 30k on them out of 07.

Installed them, drove truck to work next day (10 mi round trip probably idled for 10 mins in morning and then again before I left work). Truck seemed to have a little less power. After work I went out to dinner (about 10 mi round trip). On the way home stopped at fuel station b/c gauge was dropping kinda quickly put fuel in it (idled 10 mins prob or less at fuel station). Truck started having a miss to it on way home from fuel station and a haze at idle. Once home I shut truck off and (had a feeling) checked dipstick way overfull.

Didn't drive truck at all after that, drained oil out of crankcase (got about 5. 5-6 GALLONS!!!! compared to the normal 3 ). Put original injectors back in and new oil change. Truck runs perfect, no noises, misses or anything, and good oil pressure and oil level staying put. My question is do you think I hurt anything (bearings etc) in the engine running it a total of about 20-30 mi and run time of about 40-50 mins total, and the oil being THAT diluted with diesel?

Thanks in advance...

It doesn't help the life but your not the only one this has happened to. Maybe an oil analysis before the next oil change.

Had an injector fail on my 03 and I drove it farther than that I'm sure. Noticed a raw diesel smell but didn't see anything unusual around engine. Finally stopped and saw oil/diesel dripping from engine area. Had probably driven a couple of hundred miles. Had one leaking injector. Replaced injector and oil, the drove for several thousand more miles before sampling oil. Oil analysis was fine. Sold truck after another 130k miles or so. Follow up oil samples also tested okay. Your probably fine, but I understand your being a little uneasy.

A few years ago I had the injector pump seal get pushed out on my 92 and had enough fuel get in that when I stopped, there was fuel running out of the breather and the whole underside of the truck and tailgate was covered. :eek:

It was at night and I didn't notice until the idiot light came on when I lost oil pressure. It was a very sick feeling indeed. :{

I got a tow to NAPA and left the truck while I had a new seal put in the pump. After the pump install, I changed the oil and ran for about 5 min and then changed it again. I ended up losing the turbo a couple days later from damage to the bearing. #@$%! New turbo and ANOTHER oil change I was back in business, but very worried about any additional damage. I had the oil tested every 1000 miles for the next 2 oil changes and all was well. :D

I hope the seller returns Your $$$. It's unlikely you did any major damage,worse case scenario minor wear on the Main and rod bearings. I would have the oil analyzed within 1k and again at 2k as suggested just for safe measure.

I had diesel in my oil but not to that extent. Bought the truck from a dealer with a fresh oil change and the level started to go up slowly. Maybe a qt above full. Checked for leaks and remove and test injectors #5 low on delivery cleaned and all is well. That was 20,000 miles ago. Truck seems ok but I watch to see oil level going up.

ok

OK thanks I feel a little better hearing that and I will definitely be doing oil analysis on the next few oil changes within several hundred miles. Thanks for the advice.

I can't imagine you doing any damage in the short distance that you drove it. Do an oil analysis if you are curious, but why barrow trouble? If the analysis comes back less than desirable, then what, are you going to tear down the engine?

I would change oil and drive it. My . 02 :)
