I have just about had it. A guy I work with has a Duramax and is always ragging on my old 95 Cummins. He said he wanted to race and I told him I would find him a rig to race. He is stock, what would it take to beat him? Fuel plate, and injectors, maybe clutch?

tell him in an effort to race apples against apples, that if he can find a '95 Chevy diesel you'll race your '95 Dodge against that.

Next time you see him ask what big truck mfg uses a V8 diesel. I have almost 500k on my 96 and when a chev goes that far without eng work then and only then they earn braggiong rights

I dont know what bombs it would take ,but I'm sure with the right ones you could whip the Durajunk. It would be fun and worth everypenny (priceless?) to see that look on his face after getting smoked by your little ole 6 cylinder.

Call Joe D. I'm sure he can point you in the right direction. ;)

Let him race anybody with a Comp-or similar box on a 24v. That artta hush him up a bit.

Now that I've got mine, nobody wants to play:p :D

Just stock

I am still stock right now. I do have gauges. I was going to wait till 100,000 miles to beef the old truck up and then was going to go with #11 plate, 4" exhaust, and Southbend clutch. I think I will start saving now. Maybe add some delivery valves and injectors. I did not buy this truck to race. If he really wants to race, we can put 11,000 lbs on a trailer and head up the local pass. Thats the only race I care about.

He was driving a Dodge Cummins (Dads) and now he bought a wrecked Duramax. He has it in the shop right now getting body work done. I saw a guy with a 98 Dodge in town, looks to have a new 4" exhaust system on his. Maybe I will have to corner him and see what he has, and if he is interested in eating a Duramax.

Bought mine with 47000 on it in June. Now has 59000 on it and FUEL ENHANCEMENT began about 200 miles ago.

To Alabama with their warranty!

CF, a while back there was a thread about "if I built a 12 valve from the ground up" (in so many words). My favorite response to that was "send your truck up to Piers along with a blank check" If I had the cash, that's what I'd do to make lots of power.

I asked a similar question a while back about the ultimate starting point for a 12 valve, especially the 370 marine engine and differences between it and the Dodge engine. I got very little information, and the greatest comment I got on the marine engine was that I shouldn't consider it as it really cost a lot! This from folks who have no idea how much money I was willing to spend. I assume no one here knows anything about the motor and or it's components. Or maybe the ones that do were gone that day. So, my search continues. JTMcC.

OK

IF it were me, I'd go with 370 injectors, a #5 or even 4 fuel plate, a PDR 40 turbo and either a Scotty II or a BHAF along With removing the muffler and cat, or if funds allow, a full 4" exhaust. Of course about now the stock clutch is hollering uncle.

You might be OK with a little milder setup using a used set of 215 injectors and the stock exhaust minus the muff and cat.

Personally, I'd just grin and tell him to come see me when he's got a couple hundred thou on his rig, and you are at about the 300k mark.

I my recent power quest I have learned a bunch about HP making options.

Pull the pump and take it to a reputable local pump rebuilder (or send it to PDR). Have them increase the fueling to 250-260 cc/1000 strokes (Thanks Al at PDR!!!) They can grind your stock plate.

A set of 370 injectors, 181 delivery valves and a PDR HX40 will make him eat TIRE SMOKE!

OR, have the fueling increased on your stock pump by 20% or so and run 215 injectors, 181 delivery valves (191's are unneccessary when you adjust the pump) and have Piers tweak you HX-35 with a 16 housing.

4" exhaust is necessary in either case. (I blew up my muffler the other night with #5, 370's, 3k gsk and 181s).

The pump adjustments are cheaper than a fuel plate and 191's and offer WAY more :D

JTMcCracken,

Forget the Marine engine, either goto Piers Harry of PDR, or Dave Mitchell of Enterprise Engines. If you are willing to spend, they will make it well worth every cent.

Champane,

Good luck to ya!

Re: ?

Just playing to see if anyone would catch it. The HOD is South of here and that's the direction I was going.

Kentucky just wouldn't have mad any sense. :p
