The dealer performed a TSB on my truck today it was a reflash of the computer. released on Feb 24. truck still seems to run rough around 2000 Rpms and seems to have less power than before, maybe its just me. I never had any trouble with my 2000 Powerstroke. I hate to have my first Cummins purchase start out like this!!!:(

Jump on it hard and very the RPM's you need to break it in. After 500 miles get a trailer attached or fill the bed with weight and drive it hard. My 10/2002 build 3rd gen felt rough around 2100 RPM's until it broke in now it's smooth as silk. I think some 4x4 dirt roads help too.

dmccullock..... be patient dude... . when she starts to break in, you will definitely know it. I'm not quite there myself yet, but I had the same deal with my previous 2001 cummins. Once the engine got some decent miles on it, it felt great.

Biggest difference in a PowerStroke versus a Cummins is,,, THe Cummins come very tight from the factory, and get better with age, where they wil be still darn tight at 10,000 miles, and at 50,000 miles they will just about be running real good, and ready for the next 50,000 and at 100,000 they are real smooth, good power, and don't have any funny noises.

A PowerStroke runs real good off the lot, but at 25,000 miles starts to loosen up, and at 50,000 starts to get loosy goosy, and at 100,000 they seem a bit old, nevermind 100,000+, they get real loose, and aren't the same diesel they were driving off the lot.

Let 'er break in, you are probably just feeling the tightness of the motor. It is a straight 6, and is prone to some different vibes than the v-8 you are used to.

I discovered mine was broken in at 12K when I flew pass a 7. 3 and 6L on the vantage hill and I was pulling a bigger trailer with a Standard Output no less. She is running strong now at 22. 5K next year I will be out of the Bumper to Bumper so I am looking at a free flowing mufler and a comp box :) :) :)

Was that the TSB for the fast idle using the cruise control?

Had mine done 2-weeks ago and have no issues with it. My truck does not have any "rough running" issues.

In fact, I just completed a 2500 mile trip - running almost empty. My last tank was 1/2 highway on cruise control and 1/2 city freeway (lots of on-and-off the trottle) and got just over 20 MPG... my best yet!

Now has almost 8,000 miles and just keeps getting better!

I only have about 600 miles on my 04. 5 600 and is everything I hoped for except for the lousy milage. About 11 empty 1/2 city driving. Seems worse then gasser numbers.

Hold on to your shorts Thames, your milage will get much better it sounds like you are babying it too much,I have a new 04 3500 c/w cummins HO and 6sd and after 3000 miles of humping including hauling a lq trailer at better than 80 mph my empty milage around town went from 10 mpg up to 21 mpg. You have enough miles on that truck now to put it to work after all that is the purpose of a Cummins engine

The TSB was 18-00704 any one know what this is for. The Service advisor said it was for the rough running issue that I was dealing with.

dmcullock,

One person over at the DTR named jwtuc also had the same problems as you're having. They tried reflashing his 3 or 4 times and it never worked. Then, they replaced all 6 injectors and it works perfect now. The rep said some of the early build 600s got some bad injectors. Here's a link to the post explaining his problems:

and a link to his post saying that the problem has been fixed and he's finally happy:

Maybe you need the same?

Thanks for all of the info!! From what I read the TSB performed was for the 600 only is that correct? Because as far as I know mine is 305/555 what is the easiest way to be certain???
