I am a new member to TDR and have been impressed with the amount of infomation that is found on the website.

My plan is to install a pair of Hadley Air horns on my 2001. 5 3500. I need some advice on wether or not to install them on the roof of the cab? What kind of problems will I run into? Is there a better location ??

Welcome #ad
Silver I mounted mine on the inside part of the front crossmember under the radiator (allmost meant for it) the comp and tank can be located anywhere on the truck but I will have pics of my setup soon.

I too mounted my horns on the cross member. I had to drill one hole. I mounted the compressor tank on the fender support bracket in the opening in front of the front tire. I took the bracket out, drilled a secong hole (there is already one hole in the braket)to mount the tank. I put the compressor behind the battery. Small enough to fit.

I understand that in some areas, it is illegal to hide air horns. I have a cabover camper so the roof is out for me.

The Hadleys are LOUD!

I'm thinking of mounting mine on my Raven Magnum cap (higher than the cab) roof. Then I would mount the compressor and tank in the forward left coner of the box on a fabricated cross corner bracket. Out of the way and out of the weather. Whatta ya think?

Lets see, Lubbock TX. Sounds like "Dixie Chicks" country to me. Well, up north we mount the horn on the ROOF. Thats right guys-ROOF!! No feeling on earth like drillin holes in the roof of your new truck. Good luck wherever you put them

That sounds like a great way to solve the problem! However, it won't work for me as I don't have a cover, instead I have a 30 foot 5th wheel!

The horns I am looking at are the Hadley Ambassadors. I will try to see if I can fit them under the truck as most people seem to be doing.

Good luck with yours!

Will the Hadley Ambassadors fit in your location? I've only heard of installations dealing with the Hadley Bully.

Appreciate your input

I think you will find there is enough room for the Hadley Ambassadors since the mounting is sideways. You should check the length and the mounting bracket to see how the air line needs to be routed and where the mounting holes need to go. I found a hold in the cross member that allowed me to run the air line through.

The bully's are mounted together on the same bracket. It looks like the Ambassadors are mounted separatly. Don't know if you would have to build a custom braket.

Anyone out there in TDR land mount their Ambassadors on the cross member?

Good Luck!

If you click here it will take you to my readers rig photos and towards the bottom you will find three pics of my air horn install on my truck. They are mounted bellow the radiator on a piece of angle iron. Granted they are not the big big horns, bu they are loud (marine hadleys). I used the stock horn wire to activate them. Now when I honk I get attention. I chose to mount them out of the view of the public to maintain my stealth look. The truck looks like lots of others, but is louder and faster than most :D
