Are there any creative people out there that can make up a wav file so we can hear those horns?

I drive a truck for a living, and there have been many times while driving my Dodge when I have instinctively reached up with my left hand to pull the air horn lanyard. Whoops, I'm in the wrong truck, no air horns! I'll have to do something about that. Air horns are on the things-to-do list, but I want to definitely set them up with a lanyard so I can pull the cord just like in the Freightliner I drive. If anyone has rigged up a big-rig style lanyard in their Dodge, please share your installation tips with us.
Andy

Andy-et al, I've installed the horns with lanyard on a Ford, Toyota gasser and my old 12v. Install isn't that bad but make sure you check, check and then re-check before you drill that 3/4" hole in the roof. Needless to say once you've drilled THATS where its going. Also double check for any air leaks before you put the liner back up-I've learned from experience what not to do. I secure the lanyard to the screw that holds the sunvisor and it works pretty well. Also, wire into the ignition side of the fusebox so that the compressor doesn't run when the engine is off. Good luck

V-man, I agree about wiring the compressor to the ingnition-on side, I had a set of Hadleys in my '79 Ford. The compressor had some kind of air leak (must have been an internal leak, I could never find it with leak detector) and it would cycle every few hours. I wasn't aware of it until I was on a camping trip and heard it in the middle of the night. I tossed the compressor, but the horns are still buried somewhere in my folks' garage.
I don't plan on putting the horns on the roof, I'll put them somewhere behind the grille. That will make hooking up a lanyard a little trickier. I'm wondering if I can use something like a bicycle brake cable?
Andy

Andy-the 1st 2 sets of "Bullys" that I installed were hooked up directly to the battery. Didn't seem to be a problem until the compressor woke me up about 3am. I knew there were no leaks but it took me awhile to figure out that the air in the tank would expand during the day when its warm and contract at night when it cooled off-so the compressor would start up. Regarding your lanyard; the air release valve can still be located in the cab-the "Bully" comes with an adaptor so that the valve can be screwed/bolted onto any surface you want. I think that the cable would get caught on something if you tried running it through the firewall to the horns. Better to run the airline through than a cable. Just my thoughts... .

Any body have any sound clips of the Hadley horns ... . or the Grover's for that matter. Sure would like to know what they sound like before I fork out the $$ to put them in. My neighbor has some pretty wimpy sounding air horns ... don't know who makes them.

Hey RamminOn-can't help you with the sound but believe me-they are LOUD!!! Have seen many people changing their shorts after a blast and they were only 12" horns. The ones I'm puttin on are 29" duals. Watch out (;

If you would like to hear the Grover horns just ask a dump truck driver to give you a blast. They come stock on a lot of big trucks. I compaired mine with an International the other day and the sounded the same. Very loud. he could hold a longer blast since i only have the small air tank.

i can say that a small blast is all it takes to put a bike rider (riding too close to the trafic lane) in the woods. .

I have a Hadley 22 in. long w/5 in. bell mounted under the hood. Just enough room to fit on the driver's side fender between the battery and engine. I have it attached with zip ties, very secure, so I can easily move it out of the way and reattach if I need room to work on something. I use a 8 gal. portable air tank mounted in my cross frame tool box. Air line goes under the cab thru firewall to manual valve mounted on dash a couple of inches to right of ignition key. Just need to push valve with thumb to sound off big time. The Hadleys should be plenty loud. I had people almost swerve into the other lane when I let it blow. I thought about mounting it on roof at first, but then had 2nd thoughts about drilling and removing the headliner.

KoaMan-Thats my only reservation-the headliner. Drilling the roof doesn't bother me as I've done it before but I'm afraid I'll never get the headliner back the way it is now. Any advice out there???

I installed clearance lights on my rig and had to lower the head liner. It was easy to do, I lowered it to the interior light (removed light). I have the overhead center lights/compass.
I removed sun visors, grab handle,A-pillars,center console, rear view mirror, and interior light.
Hope this helps,
wakely

LarryB-that guy's crazy. What a set-up!! I'm gonna be happy with the electric compressor supplied with the horns. Could't fill a blimp with it, but its fine for airhorns. Also, I guess the only way to pull the headliner is to "just do it".

Just thought someone might want to know. I need to get mine ordered!

BIG BOB-I've used the Bullys before and they sound great, but I'm putting BIG suckers on this truck. Shouldn't be much more work to it-the Bully works best with the lanyard/IMHO/ Good luck
