Competition Spooling problems

i have had my street puller for over a year and am happy with it i haven't pulled with it, but i have put 20,000 miles on it. it's hard to get use to it grabs as soon as you let off the clutch pedal but i haven't had it slip on me. when van installed mine he told me i could upgrade the street puller to the comp for under $500 if i ever wanted to.

Can't make up my mind!

Well, I can't seem to make up my mind about which clutch together. I called up Haisley's today and was talking to Curt. I mentioned to him that I am seriously thinking about the Comp Dual disk now isntead of there street puller. He said that its a killer truck and untouchable on the track. It is very streetable if shifted slowly and under 2000rpm.

He then went on to mention that driven on the street the Comp Puller will tend to wear faster than the Street Puller because there is almost no clamp load at the low RPM.

I didn't think of it at the time but I really wondering this there comp puller is more of a slipper clutch then in a way. I know that most weighted clutches like there comp one over a certain RPM won't slip because the clamp load keeps increasing but what happens down low? Are there no springs inside like that of the street clutches?

Just trying to figure that out.

Thanks. . Ryan

Seems to me the Comp Puller would be good for a puller only truck, not driven on the street. Shift slowly and below 2000rpm?? So much for winding the gears out, spooling the turbos etc. . Seems like you'll barely be spooling them up if at all, then have to shift, only to bog back down etc. Gotta make a choice, puller only or pull/street truck.

Update!

Been a year since I posted this and there was alot of misconceptions about this clutch so I thought I would say how mine has been since I got the truck on the road this summer.

To date I have yet to pull but decieded to just break in the engine this year seeing the season was 3/4 over by the time I got the truck up and going. I have managed to put about 1500 miles of street driving on the clutch and I like it alot. My driving habbits have changed a little since last year and I am doing a bit more city driving and to tell you the truth I don't notice much of a difference from my Comp Puller to my brothers Street Puller.

I am very glad I went with the Comp unit and I can easily shift up to 2500rpm which is more than enough for me on the road!

I have noticed that when doing a burnout the clutch really wants to push up and it will be the same way for pulling but I am able to hold it down untill 3500rpm. This winter I might be pulling it apart and taking a few weights off to get the revs up a little higher.

All in all I am very happy with it on the road and just thought I would let anyone else thinking about this clutch but unsure because of the street... not to worry about it! Oo.

When you sled pull, hold that peddle down, when the rpms come up high enough it will leave on its own even while your foot is on the peddle,as soon as the truck launches let your foot off of the peddle. Dont be so quick to take those weights out -you might find it will come up higher than you think with a sled behind you,and if you power down your truck at the end of the track (and drop rpm) the clutch will slip if you dont have enough weights on it. Remember if you weight it to leave at 3000 rpm ---guess when its gonna start to release on a sticky track thats dragging your rpms down?
