Was just backing into the garage tonight and the truck got real heavy all of a sudden. I pulled forward and back a couple of times and no change. The brakes are like at 50%. I didn't have much time to look at it but the brake fluid is full and nothing on the ground. I didn't see any vacuum lines loose or anything. I would assume the power braking is vacuum assisted? It actually feels like it's just working off the rears and not the fronts. Any ideas? Thanks, George

Check the Cable (P~Brake) I have seen 'em Stick out of the blue for stupid reasons like humidity , snow , things of the such (Shoes remain out juust against the drums) and one sure tipoff is roll the truck along in nutral (drive maybe 15 feet or so an go into nutral) if the truck comes to a stop and transfers weight then they are dragging. if the truck rolls to a stop gently and does NOT transfer weight) then they are fine.

Other than that I gotta think

Vacuum depleated.

Nothing broke. You probably just depleated your vacuum reserve. If it does it again put it in park and raise the engine rpm for about a minute to build up the vacuum.

Skydiver is exactly right. It could also be that your idle is too low to keep up with your vacuum demand. If you run into this problem a lot you can add a vacuum tank to provide additional storage, they're cheap. Someone said this problem is covered by a warranty or TSB, I personally haven't seen one though. Only '94-'96 have vacuum assisted brakes.

I bet I ran down the vacuum and maybe the idle is a little low. Come to think of it I did some jockeying back and forth as the garage is kinda tight. Will check when I get home from work. Thanks for the replys. Geo.
