Halo light. A couple of weeks ago I installed gauges on the truck. While I had the dash apart I thought I would look into the infamous HALO LIGHT. It''s there and it is wired. It goes to a connector and then to a blue and tan #22 gauge wire that vanishes in the wire harness. Figured I would just tie it in to the gauge lights and that would take care of it. NO Light. Checked it out and found that the blue and tan are only on when key is OFF. Key on, no circuit. Apparently it is supposed to be on so you can find the key slot at night and when you are running it is off.
The problem with the HALO light is it goes to a 4 pin connector. The wire's were connected to the two OPEN pins. Just open the shroud on the steering column and use a paper clip and move the two wire's to the correct terminals and it should work.
Key off voltage is only 5 or 6 volts. Very low current draw. 2000 manual does not show a Halo light? Maybe a draw down on battery light glove box light?
Take a look, only three torx screws and your there, check the little 4 wire connector. Hope this is clear. "Head works faster than fingers"Halo light. Just splice the halo light into the overhead light. The easiest place to find the wire is under the pillar cover. Now it works just like the 1999's and earlier.

I don't quite understand this thread,is there a problem with the halo light on the newer rigs?On my '95s the light goes on for a few minutes after either door is opened,it doesn't matter if the key is inserted as long as it is off.

Starting with model year '00, DC has stopped hooking up the Halo light (the schematic has been removed from the service manual and the original connector has been removed from the timer module). The funny thing about it is they haven't told the dealers about it. The dealers just say, "bring it on in and we'll swap out the ignition switch assembly. " The Durango's have lost their Halo's too.

DC bean counters must be working overtime. No halo,no body or tailgate trim,no passenger side interior grab handles, short block heater cord so you have too open the hood to use... must be more. Did they cut the price too?Glad I bought mine in '95.
