Has anyone hooked up a hand throttle to there p7100. I want to put one on so I can set it to idle a little higher in the morning when warming up as it is not good to leave a cummins idle more than ten minutes at low idle. Any help ; please. Thanks

Not sure on the hand throttle, don't see why you couldn't hook it up to the pedal linkage though.

Am sure that a higher idle won't warm it up much faster though. Better to start driving or use an exhaust brake to warm it up.

Fast Idle

A fast idle solenoid off of a quadrajet carb with an altered bracket will work with a switch in the cab... set it at 1200 RPM... its the next cheapest to the stick in seat method.

You will have to use the pedal to bring the idle up first as the solenoid does not have the grunt to do that initial step.

This works, or as one person suggested use a throttle cable from an old KW works too.

I bought a throttle linkage cable from NAPA and hooked it up the the pedal linkage. It works great. Just a quick pull, one quarter turn and it looks in the RPM. Warms up in no time... It is so simple even the wife can use it... (No negative impact on my wife intended!)

Cost only $24 Canadian.

Another option:

Harold Bowers sells a fast idle kit. It includes a 12 volt selenoid, bracket, switch, and enough wire and connectors to complete the installation. Just flip the switch and you are set.

Otherwise, I'd say the pedal is as good a place as any to connect a cable to.
