Happy B-Day vssman

Dehydration is the key. I know when I worked out doors I would drink 1-1 1/2 gallons of water a day so when I drank on the weekends (16-20 beers on the boat during the day) I would not have any hangover on monday morning even without drinking any water. Now I drink about 1/2 gallon water/day and 3 beers will leave me feeling dehydrated even if I have a glass of water before bed. So rather than age I think it is the regular daily intake of "good" fluids (not coke, coffee, beer, etc , but water, juices, etc) that as we get older we stop being as active and eating as well as we did when we were younger and had to maintain that energy level.

Someone mentioned acetominophen (tylenol), that and alcohol and the liver are not a good combination. It IS the least harsh NSAID for the digestive tract, but I lean on ibuprofen or plain aspirin myself.

I stopped drinking for a few days once. After that, one beer would give me a headache--quickly. So I worked myself back into shape. Now it takes 12 or so for a headache. :p

If you can't stand to mix water with your beer drinking, try mixing in some of those "non-alcohol" beers. Some of them are pretty tasty, and will give you hydration without the alcohol. That's how I cut down when I want to.

A regular exercise program will help keep your metabolism higher (like when you were younger). The higher metabolic rate will help you burn the alcohol and calories faster. The key here is to exercise BEFORE drinking.

Nothing like a chunky thick micro-brew after a mountain bike race!;) :D
