Hankook tires?

Anybody running Hankook tires? I haven't heard of them before and thought I'd check the board. Heather at Rickson recommends 'em for ride, performance, etc. , but says they haven't stocked 'em long enough to comment on longevity.

Hankook has been around for some time. I have only seen then in the over the road truck applications. We have some on a couple of our fire trucks, and I had them on school buses when I drove them. The ride well and seem to wear good.

Only experience I've had was on a 1994 Chev Blazer when we had tread separation on a BFG in the Grand Canyon National Park on a Sunday in 1999. The spare was good, but we needed to get down the road and did not want to head out into the wilds with no spare so bought the ONLY tire in our size at the Native American-run service station in the Park.



That tire was a Hankook. It lasted 4 years and 80000 miles. with no problems... .....



Tried to find out if another tire company actually owns Hankook and just markets under that name, but nothign to report there... .

Korean tires? Aaaaarg! Next thing I know I'll be driving a Hundae! Just kidding, Hundae's are coming up in the world too and are pushing the Japanese on quality.

Thanks a bunch for the Hankook recommendation; makes me feel better about ordering them! They ain't purty but no commercial tire is, I suppose. I chose them over Dunlops because they were almost $400 per set cheaper.

I hope I didn't screw myself by ordering powder blue steel wheels from Rickson instead of the aluminum jobbies. The aluminum wheels would have cost $800 more and Heather was almost begging me to go with steel wheels. I suppose that could have been because aluminum wheels are in shorter supply, but she sounded certain that I'd be just as happy if not happier with the steel wheels.

She's the expert and if she wants to save me money I'm all for her! :-laf

The Rickson 19. 5s I picked up of the classifieds had a set of Hankooks with very little miles on them. I was skeptical, even though my wife is Korean and believes the best quality stuff comes from there . (I see nothing, hear nothing, and I say nothing :-laf )



Actually I was admiring them earlier today. I have the AH06 on the steers and the DH01s on the drivers. After putting 6K on them this winter I am happy with them. The DH01s did quite well for traction in all the ice and snow we have here. I was plumb amazed on how well balanced the steers have been. I had a slight shimmy with both the Truxus 255 80 16s (with beau coup weights) and the OEM 235 80 17s from the 04 I had on before. The Hans have been shimmyless. I was apprehensive that they might want to float in slush conditions, but so far that hasn't been my experience. I'm thinking the substantial gooves on the AH06s help prevent this.



The downside is they will track a rut more than either the aforementioned tires did. I understand this isn't uncommon with the 19. 5 especially on a dually. It isn't something that would make me not have or want them, rather it takes getting use to. They also are not near as rough as I thought they would be. Although they are rougher than the phoofy soft Truxus swampers. Hoping for many miles out of them.

I am extremely happy with my Hankook tires. I have had them on for about 5000 miles now.

I have has a couple of sets of the hankook tires and was very pleased with both.

Thanks, ol'traildog, sparks and suprmn. Suprmn, I assume your Hankooks were the commercial variety and not regular LT tires. How many miles did you get out of 'em?

I have nearly 50K on my DH01s. I have rotated them more aggressively than any tire I have ever owned and still am getting some uneven wear. They are the smoothest riding tires I have ever owned though. Rickson mounted and balanced them and added the Equal pellets.

They are very resistant to hydorplaning, but do not grip wet roads as well as I would like. I can not speak to their abilities in snow. As some one else mentioned, they will find a rut in the road.



I expect I will get about 60K out of them. This is about what I could get out of a set of Michelin M/S on my 2nd gen.
