I know this probably belongs in "POLITICS" but I'd rather put it here.
From Wikipedia;
"Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. Independence Day is the National Day of the United States. "
Here, not far from where I am, there's a site called "The Conference House" also known as the Billopp Manor. It was built around 1680 when the British were kicking out the Dutch and ramping things up around here. Captain Christopher Billopp came here to live in the house after his service in the Royal Navy. After our country was born, the state of new york took ownership of the property and today it's a working landmark and popular place to tour. My Mother in Law occasionally volunteers there, gives tours and works the dutch oven on events. It's a nice place, rich in history that you can touch.
What makes this house important is that it was here that the last effort to end the Revolutionary war took place. There was a peace conference here that wouldn't go too well as the British expected nothing but full submission from the patriots.
It's fascinating to think about how those who thirsted for independence stuck together. And without the means to communicate like we have today, got things done without worrying about my this or my that. Thank God for their perseverance. One of the things I pray about in church is the wisdom of those who are charged with maintaining our independence today.
I hope everyone has a GREAT DAY!
