How many miles on your Ball joints?

With all my mods, I get better than 20 mpg on the highway... I get around 17-18 mpg in mixed driving.

I have the calcs to prove it... from every tank... and I also will note that I have seen a steady increase in mileage since new... I currently have over 75k on the truck and it is still increasing. My biggest single increase was probably not really good, but was from allowing a single oil change out to 7500 miles (I was on the road 2500 miles from home)... mileage has been great ever since... maybe a "forced" break in?

I can't really get a feel for my mileage now since the dynatrac install... but I can say that with the slide-in loaded that I got 18mpg with it in... I'm pretty sure I'll be quite a ways above 20mpg unloaded.

Mods to date:

RokkTech Sensor

Swiss Cheese Airbox w/ Amsoil Oiled-Foam filter

More or less straight piped

FASS

Dynatrac Kit

Ok, I keep hearing about this Rokktech sensor. I know it is an altered (for advance) crank sensor, but does it alone really help fuel mileage? If you combine it with a mild preasure box (ie. Edge EZ) is there any mileage gains?

When I stopped trying to race from stop light to stop light and paid more attention to my rpms for a given situation trying to keep my rpms below 2k my milage increased, I get better milage around town than I do on the highway. But the last fill up was mostly highway the pump kicked off at 29 gallons and I had driven 609 miles I can not complain. But conditions and my driving style have the biggest impact on milage, when i have a lot of hills and wind my milage will drop down to 15 to 16 mpg.

Since my 05 was broken in, Iv been getting 18-20 for a combo hwy and street driving. On the road I try to keep it under 2000 rpm.

The truck is basically stock. The only change iv made to it so far is a dropin Airraid Jr kit.

The overhead and hand calculating are almost exact.

Given the size and weight of the truck, Im happy with the mileage.

Combination with the box, might cause excessive timing advance.

You can only advance timing so much before it goes the other way... I'm only running the RoKKtech sensor by itself...

Between it and the FASS, I saw no decrease in mileage on winterized fuel... just starting to get back into the summer fuel and it looks like I might be in the low 20s now...

My mileage decline with the pressure box , try the rokktech , the pressure box is only going to dump more fuel. Big air intake helpful

I get around 13 to 14 with a combination of city/highway. I have only seen 20 one time while driving on the freeway staying below 2000 going slightly down hill and having the wind at my back.

I have not been impressed with my gas mileage! I bought a diesel to get better mileage then a gasser and its just as bad or worse. Not to mention that diesel fuel costs more now.

My Dad and my brother both own 2nd GEN's and they were always talking about 19-20 but I have never seen it in my 3rd GEN.

I'm with you on the lousy mileage. I'm getting 13 to 14 in town and 16. 7 highway. It asolutely blows. It's amazing how you can such a variety in mileage reports in the 3rd gens. Makes me think there are a string of engines out of the factory that were'nt quite up to par. who knows.

I said it before and I'll say it again...

The first gens were the most predictable because they were completely mechanical.

The second gens started getting a little bit loose in mileage because we started to be a little more computer controlled...

Then intro the 3rd gens... mpg all over the place... probably because they are WAY too much computer controlled... think of it this way... one or two sensors not operating at optimum, but still operating within the computers "ok" parameter... might cause mileage to suffer while not throwing a code.

That's my take on the mileage issues... this coupled with tightening emissions controls... lower mileage.

I just made a 2500 mile trip from Anchorage to Seattle. I got 17. 5 mpg for the 1st 2000 miles all on #1 diesel. After getting a tank of #2 in southern BC the mileage went up to 19. All of these at cruising speeds, 60-65 mph.

At Piers Diesel I had a Workhorse fueling box installed. I got 22 mpg cruising on I-5 at 65 mph as well as a little more umpf from the engine. It also blew out a big blast of black smoke when the pedal hit the metal. :-laf

I then towed a 14k 5th. whl. about 100 miles as well as a little town stop/go. The calculated mpg was 14. 8. Needless to say i am quite happy with the improvement.

Tomorrow we are leaving to go back to Alaska towing a 25' Airstream RV. I will keep track of that trip to see how it goes but will be back in #1 diesel country again.

Tell me more about the workhorse box . Can I get some data somewhere?

Update:

Removed the Rokktech and put stock back in, per the overhead I see a 3 mpg increase. But the proof is in the hand calc.
