The reason I asked is that my wife needed assisatnce the other day with a dead battery. When the roadside assitance showed up they used one of these. Also on our last camping trip another camper had one and used it to recharge their mobile telephone.

Seems like it could be handy for portable 12v applications...

lizzyhermit;

I have a 900 watt and it did a pretty good job for what it was intended for. no problem caring it around with you if it stayes up-right. [caution, if needed] those batteries are small in size, and I would caution you if you get one, do not over charge it, and to keep it charged. I think I over charged mine, over time and boiled it dry. so after a while of ownership, I would check the water. I believe they are supposed to be sealed, but to some degree they are. It looks intimedating when you open it but it can be done, just be carefull.

I have one, but mine dont have the jumper wires, it has an inverter on it.

It has moulded in the case, the place for jumper wire, so I think the battery is the same. It was the bigger unit there. I believe it's made by Century.

I use mine for when I trim hedges. It beats the hell out of running 200ft of extension cord.

I am with the local auto club and have used similar products for the last dozen or so years. They work very well (I have used my booster cables once in the last two years). Try to find out where the battery in that particular unit was made. My experience has been the American or Japanese batteries are good and the ones from Taiwan have been less powerful even though they have identical ratings. Prices have really come down over the years, my first one was almost $200 cdn and now they are about $79.

I have one, although not the one you specified. It is very handy, takes less space than my heavy duty jumper cables. Great for running 12v items away from a vehicle. It is small enough that I will throw it in the boat as insurance, and have used multiple times to start the boat. I would recommend getting one if the price is right.

My buddy has this one here , and he seems pretty happy with it. It also has the best invertor in it out of the ones I have seen, and there is an available quick charge unit if you look around the internet for it a bit. Although I wouldn't expect that compressor to fill up the tires on the trucks, still a handy little thing to have.

Handy Item

I used these things all the time when I woeked at the local Chevy dealer as a salesman. ( :eek: Yeah, I know :eek: ) They worked great. Even started a dead Durimax once. If memory serves, we left them plugged in all the time, when fully charged they turned the power off on their own. NiCad batteries I think.

I have a Carquest 12V JUMP-START SYSTEM. The bigger one and I has to start my CDT two times. I brought ONE after a friend had to start my CDT with his.

Eric... If you didn't have one of these... what would be your option when your stranded... :D :D :D

I've been using them for years. They work great. You won't get quite as much juice out of them jumping a dead battery as you do with a regular set of jumper cables though. I've used them to start all kinds of tractors with low batteries. Sam's Club and Costco both sell them at good prices (different brands). One word of caution, if your battery is completely drained they won't work (at least the ones I've had). They won't make a connection to a totally dead battery.

I don't know about the quality of the Harbor Freight electrical stuff. I've bought hand tools, chains, and binders from them, but a lot of their electrical stuff doesn't seem to be the best quality. My . 02 cents.
