Returned from a long trip, and now I have a hard spot when pushing the pedal down to start. just started. had the #970 recall done, so its not a fry-ed cable. also done a lot of searching on ALL the forums i have access to, not much help. How ever did read that maybe the ball joints might need a little lube on the linkage. I was wondering if the lever in the pump is making contact under the nose on the plate. It is slide forward, about . 80" thousandths from the full front.

Its just hard on start up. goes away after it engine starts.

Read somewhere there is an "ANOID" valve in there that helps to reduce smoke on low speed acceleration and that this is the Resistances that you feel.

What do you think it could be???

I have that same problem on my 96. Its very noticable when the engine is off, but once started, its not there anymore. I havent had time to break into my plate or afc, and as far as I know everything is stock, with 143k... . Runs good as far as I can tell, but I think I`m going to have to break down my tps in the very near future... hmmm

hard spot

Found the hard spot. removed the AFC cover and seen the lever rubbing on the bottom of the angle of the #5 plate as it would slide under it. should the lever just bump the furtherest lower protrusion on the nose???? Of the plate? Slid the plate back to center and will adjust the star wheel for now, but slid the cover full forward. What do you all think??

Marv,

The hard spot is characteristic of the P7100 governor. If it is not turning it will have a hard spot. Once it starts and the governor is working then the hard spot goes away.

Bmoeller;

Thank guys. Have seen the adjustment of Piers and was in that area of the pump.

Every thing I have drove with the P7100 has had this same hard spot WHEN not running. or at low RPM to hold back the smoke, until some boost starts to come on but mine runs OK.

So if it is adjusted to the point of the #5, will it still dive under the plate while off? Will it run better if it is adjusted as stated?

Marv.

I think there is some confusion about the way the plate works. It is properly called the full load throttle stop. The curve varies the maximum rack travel depending on RPM. In other works, at different RPM the governor follower will contact a different point on the plate curve. With WOT the governor will move the follower along the curve of the plate thus controlling the maximum amount of fuel as RPM changes. Something would have to bend for it to "dive under the plate while off". All the things involved are pretty stiff so I sure don't think that is happening.

My 95 acted like this until I lubricated the ball joints on the linkage. A small spring clip at each ball joint can be removed to disassemble the joint for cleaning and lubrication. Mine works great now.

Rog,

If you still have the small spring clip type linkage ends you have not had the throttle linkage recall done.
