:confused: :confused: :confused: I am noticing that once in a while when I apply the brakes, the pedal feels hard and requires added pressure to stop normally. At other times it feels "normal". Is this something to be real concerned about or is it something that is more of a pain to push hard.
 
It could be an obstruction in your brake line (rust, sediment) or a hydroboost issue.



I had the same problem with mine, I drained out the reservoir and bled about 2 quarts through the system to cure my problems. I don't know what the recommended intervals for flushing the brake fluid is, but I have heard as often as every oil change.
 
It could be that the proportioning valve for the rear brakes has something to do with it or the anti lock system. I know that occasionally when I apply brakes moderately I can feel the back brakes release a little then to maintain the same braking you must apply more foot pressure, effectively making the fronts do most the work. If this is your symptom, I'd say 1) It's normal and 2) Adjust the back brakes, it helps alot. You gotta keep 'em adjusted, I do mine every oil change. Hope this helps.

Maybe...just maybe

When you had your brakes done last, and if you have drums in the rear, were they turned? I find that if I don't tell them to, they won't because it's hard to get them true. If they weren't turned, the drums may be glazed and this might cause what you describe. I have the same problem and I have to take mine back to get the rears turned. Just make sure they have the right bit to hold the drum on the lathe, or they will be out of true. There is only one they should be using but some shops don't have it and will "make do" with the wrong one. Sorry I can't tell you how to make sure of that, except to go somewhere you trust to do good work even if you have to pay more. If you have drums in the rear, and they are glazed, this will probably fix your problem. Engine Brakes are a must when pulling heavy :).
