Hard drive MP3 players

I just got an iriver H320 (20GB) MP3 player. So far, I've loaded around 100 CD's and have used just over 3 GB. Pretty cool. I looked at the ipod, but decided on the iriver because it has a color screen, can view JPG files, has an FM radio, and seems to handle more file formats. Having this should make my morning 2 mile walks more pleasant, and should be nice for hiking too. I also bought a pair Sony noise cancelling headphones (MDR-NC6). They sound pretty nice.

How's the price compare to the iPod? I've been looking at the iPod mini (4GB) for around 250 or the 20GB iPod for 300. How about the physical size? I want something small that I can carry to the gym with me.

I too, just bought an iRiver but a smaller one, the iFP-895. 512mb, and FM tuner. about 17 hrs of music and 40 hours on 1 AA battery. really like it. 'course the wife ain't too keen on it as I walk around the house, car port and TT listening to tunes (not her... ... . ) working on the PU also. it's great !!

I've got a Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen Extra. 40 GB. 1/2 the price of an i-pod. I have been able to customize the display, it shows graphics I load as it shuts down. It has a removable, rechargable battery. I use an external FM transmitter on the road. There is a 60GB unit available, but I don't need it. I can hook it up to my machine at work and control the playlists from my desktop. I can use it as file storage for other than music files. I don't use the headphones that came with it. I've got a pair of Koss that I love.

The iRiver H320 that I got was $320 plus I bought a 3 year extended warranty for $50 from Best Buy. Usually I don't go for the warranty on consumer products, but the warranty covers the battery, etc. , which seemed like a good idea given the portable nature of the unit. The side is about the same as a deck of cards and maybe just a bit heavier. It might be 1/4" thickker than the ipod, but about the same height and width. The size is not objectionable at all to me. I think it might be 1 oz heavier than the ipod. Apple also has an ipod with a color display, etc, but it sells for $500.
