Is there a way to soften the ride of a 2500 on railroad tracks etc ? I have seen some info on the BGF Velvet-ride shackles. How do they work?

Best way I have seen to improve the ride is to add weight. The empty weight in the rear of these rigs is not conducive to a good ride. After all it is a 3/4 ton truck. Try rancho 9000 shocks, they supposedly help too.

Rancho 9000 shocks, set to two or three in the front and one in the back. When you load the truck turn the rears up to handle the load the way you want. There is no compromise with the 9K's.

Rancho 9000's set to 3 in front and 2 in back ride like a dream when unloaded. When set to 4 in front and 5 in back, they really dampen out the "bouncing" when towing our 5th wheel.

Seems like this pops up alot here,,Three things you can do to help the ride and a comment and I'll depart,,Shocks-While there are many flavors and many options do a research on it and you'll see what most prefer(Rancho,Bilstien and Edelbrock most of the prefered guns),,You'll see many disagreements on who is better in ride quality and longevity,,Tire pressures-Look at the supplement that came in the owners manual for suggested pressures to run(you'd be surprised to here how many do not look at that and run 80lbs) it will make a huge difference in ride quality and fuel milages,,Tires-While most will probably never agree to this I am a firm believer that some tire manufacturers kill ride quality by developing a tire aimed at our trucks only, stiffer sidewalls and harder tread compounds have a lot to do with it,,Last thing-One thing I'll never understand is the "poor or hard ride"comment, makes me wonder if the owners really wanted a truck or want a car,3/4 or 1 ton trucks are engineered to do a specfic job that has little or nothing to do with unladen ride,,I do not mean to be disrespectable here but it really is a simple deal, you want a car(soft)ride, buy one... Just my . 02.....

Hard Ride

I agree that ride is a relative word and when I purchased a 2500 I was carring a 2500 # camper. Now I have a 30 ft fifth whl and need all of the support that I have, But it is those times in between that it is nice to have the rear end to not bounce as much on our "back roads" here in Mass. Thanks for the info on Rancho. I'll look into them.

If all else fails try a Kelderman air ride set up... . as to all the other suggestions : tire pressure lower = smoother ride

shocks adjustable=better for all conditions

weight more takes the arch out of the spring

thereby taking some of the preload out of the spring

one or all of these can help in your quest for comfort.

p. s. I run 35 psi in the rear of my dually, and 45 psi in the

front, it still ride like a truck , but i can't expect much

I have two extra full leaves per side!!!

Velvet-Ride Shackles

Hank,

On your original post you asked about the Velvet-Ride shackles. I installed them in my '00 truck (see signature) about a year ago. I didn't get much of an improvement in the ride. It was a disappointment.

I would not spend the money, and I certainly wouldn't spend the time, to install them again.
