I have a 2 nd. gen. 3/4 t. 4x4 auto with an ATS torque converter, ATS valve body and an ATS Commander Lockup Controller. When I'm not pulling, everything works normally, however when I am pulling my 5 th. wheel (about 9700 lbs. )there is a hard ! shift with a shutter when going into overdrive. Its to the point that I have to warn my passengers to be ready for an abrupt jolt.

Any thoughts?

Don't know a whole lot about ATS stuff, but could it be the torque converter remaining locked when shifting due to the Commander?

This is exactly what mine does, with out the commander on, you will feel the cv unlock, trans shift into od, then the cv will lock again. I have the same setup, but it seems to shift hard empty, much smoother loaded. My trans pressures are way above stock, thought I might lower them, after all ATS says their triplelock cv doesnt need the high psi. Might help shift quality?
