I have a 99 1 ton dually that I changed the transmission lube in, within a week it started grinding going into third and fourth going up, down shifting grinds into fourth and is impossible to get into third without coming to a stop. I bought the mopar lube for it. The truck has 70k on it. What would cause this to happen so quickly?! I now shift without the clutch. I bought the truck from a friend of mine who took very good care of it. I am assuming that it is the syncro's gone bad. Any info will be a help. Thanks. Also how do you get your info on the bottom of the page?

I had a 97 GMC 1 ton with a NV4500 at work do the samething. The truck only had 84,000 miles on it and the factory oil in it. I took the trany out in about 1/2 hour had GMC go through it and they said the only fix was to rebuild it. It cost about $1600 and a morning to put it in. If it was mine I would talk to Standard Transmission and Gear, ATS or Bluemental heavy duty. Look in your TDR for there numbers. Good luck.

Double check the type of fluid you put in it, I run Redline MT90 in mine, it really likes it, but the correct Mopar lube works great also. The 4500 uses a slightly thicker fluid than the 5600, if it isn't that, I would look at the pilot bearing hanging up, fairly common on these things.

Thanks for the reply. On the bottle's I got from mopar it says it's for the NV4500 so I asume it is the right lube. Even though it seemed a little thin. It just seemed strange that it would happen that fast after doing a fluid change. I was planning on doing a rebuild myself, I found a kit on ebay for $180. Don't know what the quality is but it's about half the price of everwhere else I looked. Thanks again.
