The truck is a 99 4x4 with a 5spd and a SouthBend 13 Fe clutch.

The transmission is getting hard to get into gear from neutral at stoplights and while sitting in traffic. Not only is it hard to get into gear but at times it's hard to get out of reverse. To me it feels like the clutch is not completely disengaging.

I was thinking it could be the syncros but since it's hard to come out of gear I'm thinking it's maybe the throwout baring.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

My first SBC did the same thing. A new clutch solved it.

Try putting the xcase in neutral and then put the transmission in gear. Push the clutch in and after a few seconds try putting the xcase into 2h. Once engaged, with the clutch still pushed in, slide it back into neutral and then back into 2h. If you feel gear meshing, either the slave isn't pushing the clutch in far enough or the clutch just isn't releasing, as in my case.

I have a similiar problem and from what I've read here I suspect my pilot bearing is bad. Did you replace you're when did the clutch?

Can't remember if it was replaced or not. :( I don't think the guy that did the install replaced it but it's been a few years ago, and I've slept since then.

I think I'll give Peter a call and see if he has any suggestions. It would sure be nice if I had a good transmission shop around here that I could trust. Cause I know nothing about transmisions.
