Hi everyone,
The hard start issue has been addressed several times, with many threads. Just check by searching threads from the past.
Mine started several weeks ago, and came and went. Fuel pressure fine, new lift pump, and some passing thoughts about the life left on the VP44 after 197,000 miles. Finally, last week when I almost didn't get my steaks home from the market when my CTD wouldn't fire up, I knew it was time for some serious checking.
Battery terminals seemed a good choice. They all looked good, charging system was up to snuff, but I pulled them all anyway, wired brushed them and the battery posts, sprayed with the "red" anti corrosion stuff and put it back together.
That was 4 days ago and it starts again with just a slight bump of the starter.
It only happened when the engine was warm or hot, never first thing in the morning. Just goes to show you, those old posts really do save the day.
