Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Hard starting 12V

I have a 98 12V that I'm having trouble with, I'm sure someone can help.

One morning truck would not start, it would fire but it was like it had lost prime. That night changed fuel filter, worked great, two days latter my wife says it died on her on the way to work!

Checked all connections no seeping or leakage. Truck is very hard to start, and would stay running below 1000rpm. replaced return fitting that seemed to help for about an hour. Now it will idle for about a minute and then it runs rough then dies like its running out of fuel.

Is my lift pump bad? Any help would be great!

Overflow valve on the pump?

Yes the overflow fitting on left side of pump. $87 bucks hardly seemed enough for that check valve.

See if restricting the rubber return line from the injection pump with a pair of pliers makes it idle better. If it does you need a new overflow valve, $55 from http://www.piersdiesel.com/DodgeUSPrice.htm If that doesn't do it and all your filters are clean it may be time for a new lift pump.

Also ck. the fuel shut off solenoid for full retraction (pulled up). If this is a problem the solenoid could be bad, the solenoid relay could be bad or dirty batt. cables etc.



I don't think this is your prob. , but these will often act up intermittantly before being more easily diagnosed.
