Why?

I upgraded my FASS and now my truck is hard to start. I have to bump the starter just to get fuel pressure and I still have to crank for a few seconds. With the old FASS it would start instantly every time. Why did they go to the . 5 second on cycle with the need to engage the starter to get the FASS to run again.

I am going to trash the damm thing if I can't figure out a better why. Anyone have any ideas or better yet is anyone having the same problem? Anyone found a solution?

FASS 150.

Duel filter, one filter has a water drain valve on the bottom.

It was showcased in TDR issue 43 page 156.

Thanks for the reply.

It should connect to the original harness plug and a relay, and should cycle just as stock. if not check wiring.

I thought so also. Manufacter says, when the key is turned on it will cycle for . 5 seconds. When you engage the starter it will run for 15 or 20 seconds (I forget which). I changed the relay. Wiring was checked before I changed it and emailed the manufacturer.

is it each start of the day or just the first one or after it sits awhile? Could you be getting air in the lines somewhere making it nessecary to crank that long?

Just a thought.

the change from 15/20 seconds to . 5 seconds is a factory ECM update, right? i know when i went back to a stock ECM load (from Smarty #5) i got the latest factory ECM load which included the change in LP run time. does the FASS relay change the initial LP run time?

The hardest is the first start of the day. If I restart within a couple of hours, no problem. The longer it sets the harder to start. I will check the connections to see if I have a loose one or a hole in the line. Has to be one of the new connections, I guess it could be a coinsedence (sp) or when I moved the lines around I wore a hole in a line.

Thanks for the advice.

The change in the delay is built into the new FASS not the ECM. Has to be the FASS relay that does it. When I replaced the truck relay there was no change so I put the old one back and kept the new as a spare.

check the connection at the pick-up tube. the plastic connector is a common problem. If the orings dont seal just right pump will lose prime/draw air = hard start.

Thanks I will do it tomorrow and let you know. Don't remember the plastic connector but I am sure I will when I get under there. I was going to change all the of the fuel lines when I did the job; when I checked them they all looked pretty good. So I went with; why fix something that isn't broke.

I had to replace all of my FASS fuel lines with bio diesel rated lines that you could heat up that would shrink and seal better. Then all the connections were hose clamped as well. This stopped my starting issues caused by sucking air. If my truck was pointed up hill my starting problem was even worse.

I have never heard of bio diesel rated lines. I pulled all the hoses off the fittings and redid them. I found the suction hose at the tank hose clamp a little loose. I also found a loose injector line; the one we had used for bleeding. Tightened them both, started OK yesterday. Need to see what it is going to do thei morning after sitting for 12 hours. If it isn't fixed I will look into the bio diesel rated lines.

Thanks for all the help. The truck is starting like it used to. It was either the loose hose clamp at the tank or the loose injector line.
