Good day. Well just got my truck out of the shop and they did the injector pump and put in the fass system and I'm wondering why the truck still is haed to start. It will crank for abort 30 sec. before it will fire why and how do I fix it??

Thanks Keith

How much fuel pressure do you have while the truck is cranking? The VP44 only likes a few psi (if any) at startup, otherwise you might get a hard start. Once it starts does it run rough for a bit, or is it smooth?

is the fass running non stop from the time you turn the key and are waiting for the "wait to start" light to go out or is it shutting itself off after a second or two??? are you waiting for the "wait to start" light to go out before you crank it over??--

try and get your guage up and going--

how many miles are on your truck--is it time for a valve adjustment????

is your edge box on or off??

you didn't mix up your old injectors with the new ones on the install did you??

are you still using the stock filter?? has it been changed lately??

how did you determine that two of your old injectors were bad??... chris

sounds like air. you probably have a fitting or hose that is bleeding down when it sits. will it fire back up quick right after you shut it off?

well I Fixed the problem. it was the check valve that is in the return line up by the injector pump. So thanks for all the good ideas. The truck runs great.

Oo. :)

KDoerr,

I am having similar hard start problems. Takes three separate crankings to get it to fire. Turns over fine every time. When it does start, sometimes it runs rough for a few seconds and the check gauges idiot light comes on until it smooths out. I have a BD X-Monitor gauge. When I turn on the key, the initial fuel pressure is about 14 psi. I wait until it gets down to about 2 before starting to crank. Doesn't seem to make much difference. Also it is intermittent. Can go some days with it starting right up on the first try. Also doesn't seem to matter if cold or hot.

How did you find out it was the check valve? Did you replace it?

More info. I was searching hard starts and checked my codes to see if I was getting the dreaded code 216 (VP44 fail). All I got was a code 1693. Any suggestions?

Sorry it took so long I was down in your neck of the woods.

OK

RNelson How did you find out it was the check valve? Did you replace it?

Well I replaced every thing and went to the F. A. S. S System and I still had the problem. There was no leaks no nothing. It was Just hard to start and idled like crap. So the check valve was the only thing I have not replaced at the time. Whet and got a new one and now she starts right away. So Check that valve. Good luck and let me know.
