Sorry to beat this to death guys but I am experiencing hard starts ever since the weather has got hot here in michigan. If the motor is cool it fires up like normal. But if it has been driven for any length of time it seems like I crank on it forever and then I will stop and hit the starter again and it fires right up. Kind of stumped. Good fuel pressure, new filter, clean fuel dont know help would be much appreciated. :)

I had that problem once. mine turned out to be a injection pump. didnt throw any codes for about 2 months of it being like that but when it did throw a code and I replaced it then it started just fine.

higher fuel pressures will cause hard starts too

Is there a way to limit fuel pressure prior to start?

What about the stock lift pump in in series with a FASS pusher? So once running, toggle the FASS.

My FP tops at about 3psi and then right back to zero after about 1. 5 second when I cycle key to on with my FASS. Then I fire the truck fine, never had a hard start with FASS. I idle at 15psi. What pressures are u seeing at start up? This sounds to me more like a injection pump problem. When they are getting close to failing some times they will present a hard start while after they have heated up and got hot. Does the truck fire up like normal first thing in the morning? or after sitting for a couple of hours? If thats the case, and you are not seeing real high pressures from the FASS at start up, I would suspect the injection pump.

ALso if it is the FASS it will be worse when the tank is below 1/2 full.

I'm from MIchigan too and have had no hot weather problems.

Just a thought.

my truck will not start at all with my new fass ,as soon i turn the key on my pressure jumps to 18 for 2 seconds then drop back to 0. then when i start cranking right back up to 18 it jumps. i have to pull the fuse on the fass start the truck then run around and install the fuse. i'm told the ecm is not sending the right signal to the fass (to cycle) or my vp is bad and will only fire with low presure. i'm planning on a CAther maybe better than a ecm reflash the dealer wants $100 to reflash.

Sorry to read about your problems with the FASS, When I read about this sort of problem it makes me want to get a RASP pump fuel system even more. Use the elec pump to start the truck and the rasp to run the truck while always having the elec pump for a backup. sounds like a good idea to me . ;)

OK this might sound realy dumb ... . iv been having hard starts since i put the fass on... last night on my way home from school i managed to run out of fuel. i had just got on the freeway and went to stomp on it to pass a car and lost all power... started slowing down tell i hit 45. i turnd the tst off righ away. then at 45 it just came back to life and i drove the rest of the way home... . 4 miles. as im getting home it feels really fast with the tst off. so i decide to go around the block. it feels like its responding better then usal. almost spining the tires when i just step on the throtle... then i turn the tst back on... within 1 minute the truck shuts off agian... i was really confused. so i call my dad and tell him to come tow me home. then i realize the fass sounds like its out of fuel. so i switch tanks... and start trying to get some fuel goin... i tow started it witch im sure is bad but oh well. this morning when i went to start it NO HARD START. fired right up. . idont get it

ps my fuel gauge on the aux tank sometimes goes to e for no reason. i could have sworn it was full at the bigging of the week

i know I have the same problem with my truck and all I have to do is wait just a minute and it works fine after turning the key. I have the 150 and my injector pump is fairly new. I think there is to much pressure going to the pump when the motor is worm, just my thought.

I installed a 150 Fass on a buddies 2001. The guy we got it from said it should only run 15. 5 psi. Well we put it on and it worked ok for a couple days and then it wouldn't start. The fass people told him that it was making too much pressure and that it probably wrecked his injection pump. He was doing the same thing where he would pull the fuse start it and then hurry up and put the fuse back in. So i asked him if Fass was going to pay for the VP44 beings there product making too much pressure was what wrecked it, well that was not the case and so he got to buy a new injection pump as well. I really dont know what to think of fass anymore after that. I thought everything was sposed to be set from the factory?? So my advice is next time it is hard starting, pull the FASS fuse and then try and start it and see what happens. If it starts easy, then your IP is probably on its way out. Good luck!!

I've have the same problem! It seems like the VP44 is getting any fuel till I cycle the engine a few times. My FASS also runs 15psi @ idle I've had it installed for about 2 weeks now. When I put it in I also installed a new VP44, so what going on??? You would think for as much money the FASS cost you put it in and drive! :mad:If you have to reflash the ECM FASS should at least mention it as a possible need in their instructions.

Guys I was told to install a regulator when installing the fass so the fuel pressure to the VP isnt to high, IE causing hard starts and eventually wrecking the VP, No I am not smart I just pay attention to the guys on the TDR, and So far no problems with hard start or VP, knock on wood, good luck Henry

Thanks for info I will be ordering it today! What pressure did you set it at I was thinking 14psi? I take it you got the bypass one-if so where did you connect the return line?

That was the one thing I wasnt sure of, the by-pass it was the bypass regulator, but I dont know if I had it right. There are three ports at the top and one port at the bottom, I plugged two of the top ports ran the supply line from the FASS to the bottom port and the top port into the fuel filter, I went 6an all the way to the VP including 6an on the regulator, I installed my FP guage in between the filter and vp and will install one more between regulator and filter when I have time. I have the reg set at 15, that is the best I could get out of it and about 10 at WOT. I used the bracket from the OEM LP and drilled it for the bracket on the reg, works pretty good just kinda hard to get to when everything is installed, only for adjustment, other than that works good, no leaks no problems so far, hope this helps, Henry

too high FP will cause hard starts, but the hot engine hard start is the injection pump, just like all rotory pumps. Change the pump and no more problems.
