Recently I have been having hard start problems. It got to the point it would not start and I put a new transfer pump on. That fixed it for 1 day, then back to hard starts. Symptoms: long cranks (10 sec. or more), does not matter hot or cold, if I press on the accel pedal engine cranks faster and starts faster. It did have a transfer pump low voltage code with old pump, no codes since. Current pump is putting out 8psi at idle and with pump running after bumping starter. Not sure if this is enough pressure or if I'm looking in the wrong place. Please help!!!

There are a lot of threads here on this topic. If you do a search you will find a lot of discussion on this problem. In my case and many others it is often an injector problem or some have had a faulty FCA. The rail must have a minimum fuel pressure before the ECM will fire the injectors. If there is a leak in the system this pressure is not obtained and engine is slow to start or in my case a no start. I am not an expert by any means but from reading, experience and advice from a diesel shop these injectors do not like pressure boxes and that is what I was running before my injectors failed. I than went to a timing and duration box only but I have even removed it completely. Power modifications have cost me some money lately so I am back to stock.

Ya listen to Slow Six he is correct. You probably need a rail pressure gauge to see where oyu are with cranking psi in the high pressure side
