A friend of mine has been hunting earnestly for a 4x4 dually for 2-3 months now and is having a tough time coming up with anything suitable. He is leaning toward a 12-valve 5-speed but finding something like this is far and few between!

Some of the private owners he's talked to say the dealers are always calling them trying to buy their truck from them. The last guy he talked to said he's heard from 6 dealers!

What's the deal? Are they a hot item? I think part of the deal is they're popular in the hotshotting crowd which is limiting availability. He sold his PowerStroke and he's out without a truck and his hunt is taking a lot longer than he expected and I'm concerned he'll finally end up with a truck that has issues. He's never had a Cummins and he's going for one since I trump 'em up all the time :) He wants a dually so he can haul his huge slide-in camper and tow his boat.

If you guys have any feelers in the Northwest I would appreciate it a bunch.

I got a 98. 5 24v that I going to trade in on 04 drw. dealer said they would give me 15k for it has lots of stuff on it. you interested?let me know soon!

Hope it won't take that long, but it took me 1yr. or so to find my '97. Has he looked on www.traderonline.com or E-bay? I found mine on E-bay from a guy that was close to me. Bought it from him before anyone bid on it. :) Didn't even have to deal with E-bay.

I've got a buddy looking for a 12 valve 4x4 dually with a standard cab and 5 speed but they don't show up often. I know what you're talking about.

It took me 6 months to locate my 2000 4x4 with a 5 speed. I found plenty of autos white in color here in tx, but if you wanted color, 4x4, and a 5 speed you were SOL.

I've got an in with a dealer who was willing to buy me what ever I wanted at auction... He goes (his buyer) to all the auctions in the western regions. I sat with his buyer looking at past and present prices. Dodge Diesels are bringing a premium. Originally, I was going to get a 01 or 02 HO 6Spd but the prices were so high and with the current 0. 0% financing, it was cheaper to buy new.

Better warranty, more room,... . I really needed the 4 doors anyways.

Well I appreciate the feedback guys, it looks like he's going to be in for a long hunt.

There was a '97 Dually in yesterday's paper here in Tri-Cities. It was in there 2 days, when I found it at 10am it was already sold, got what he was asking for it ($15,000).

I think I am going to suggest he look into a new one.

Vaughn,

You know when I read your post my first thought was gee there are plenty of Dodge CTD here. I get the "Ohio Auto&RV" publication, and I see them all the time. I am not looking to purchase, but I thumb Thur just to see what is selling and for what cost. After a few days of thinking about your statement, I thought I would go Thur the paper and count how many fit your description of the wanted truck. I was confident I would find many that matched. Well I went Thur it, and guess what? I was amazed, all the CTD I was seeing were 24V trucks. I looked in that paper and the local paper and never found one. There most have been 35-40 24V in the Auto &RV paper, just known 12V's. I never realized what you had figured out, people are holding on too the 12V's. I still see them on the road, so I know they are still out there, just not for sale. I also noticed there are more Fords for sale then all other trucks combined. In the truck section there were 4-6 Fords on every page, most are 2-3 years old.

I'll keep an eye out for you, but it doesn't look to good right now.

Lithia Dodge in Missoula has a blue 6-speed that I looked at yesterday. Do not know the miles, but the price was about $25000. It appeared pretty clean, and had a fifth-wheel hitch.
