My brother in law has a 97 with a 12 valve that has beed to the dealer 6 times for a hard starting condition. They have replaced the fuel lines, injection pump, filters, shut off solenoid, as well as some things he can't remember. All were covered either by warrenty or his extended warrenty. Yesterday he was at my house and the truck wouldn't start. I started looking at the engine while he was cranking it and the shut down solenoid was not pulled in. I moved it by hand and it started right up, but it would not stay engaged. As soon as I let go it shut off. I pulled up on it again and it clicked, stayed it and the truck started and ran the rest of the day with no problem. I quess my question is what powers this solenoid? My truck is a 24 valve so the manual is of no use. Anyone have any ideas?
