Just bought a 2000 2500 24 valve with 168000 miles on it. Truck starts great when cold, but is very hard to start when warm, have to crank repeatedly for long periods of time to start after reaching operating temperature. Truck runs strong, with no missing or hesitation. Done the key thing am getting the p1693 code in the odometer. Was told by dealership this is a defect in the pcm , and probably has nothing to do with the hard starting problem. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks Cliff. 02 3500 4x4 h. o. 6spd. , 00 2500 4x4 5spd, 98 2500 12v. 4x4 5spd. , 94 2500 4x4 5spd.

Well I had the same problem as you have just described the hard starting when warm. mine turned out to be the injection pump but I have heard of others who found it to be other than that. mine showed no codes of anything. just wouldnt start very well. then one day it coded. injection pump it was.

Sorry man but I'd be willing to bet it's the injection pump.

Had the same symtoms and thats what it was.

Sorry to say it but your probability says 80% injection pump. If you cool the injection pump off and it starts it's then a 100% probability. Let us know if we can help. Thanks

ck for cracked fuel line , a coustomer had that same issue

took a while but found a drop of fuel on a line

remonved the line filled with regualr brake clean add air . looked ok no leak

drained and refilled with zep brake cleen add air found to be swetting at

end of line where banjo is brazed on (zep brake cleen is thinner than store bought )

replaced line every thing great , i think it was one of the return lines

good luck , sucking air and bad pumps act alot alike sometines

ram12v--I had the same problem. The first time it was the vp44. The second time it was the ecm. Make sure you get the vp44 tested before you replace the pump. Find a local Bosch dealer --a good rebuilder will do a test without taking the pump out. If you have to replace the vp44 the rebuilder can do it for you or you can do it yourself--not very difficult. If the ecm is bad--get in contact with Bob Wagner (tdr member).
