ok the trucks a 96 auto stock except the muffler and cat got lost it's a little hard to start first thing in the morning it takes about 5seconds to start and idles like butt if it'll idle on it's own when it's hot it ildes fine but still takes about 5seconds to start if i tap the gas it fires right up hot or cold mileage is about 16. 5 pullingatrailer which i would hope for just a little better considering i don't do over 65 and at least 50% highway theres no white smoke on start up but the truck does sound funny it's not noticeable unless pointed out but it doesn't have the sharp bark they normally do and it does feel just a little down on power when pulling hills i have recently changed the fuelter and replaced the lift pump it was leaking from the primer

Your idle should be at lease 800 RPM with the engine warm, the trans in gear, and AC on.

The fix for a leaking primer button costs about 50 cents for a new O-ring. I hope you kept your old lift pump because it is probably ok.

get the fuel line kit from Larry B. He uses marine grade line otherwise you'll be making the repair again. I did it a couple of times before buying LarryB's kit.

larry b

i have looked at the lines and they look ok but hell seeing anything in there can be a challenge! i went ahead and ordered larry b's lines soon as there here and on i'll report back

and yep i did keep the old pump i know about the oring this way i've got a 2nd gen pump to run with the 1st gen in my chebby though:D now if i could just track everything else down at a good price:D

The lines will look okay, but for some reason, they crack and cause the system to lose its prime. If you manually prime your system first thing in the morning and then it will probably start fine. If that is what happens and your replaced pump is good, then it must be the supply line.

Mine is that way, somewhere on this forum it has been discussed before, that you have to give it some pedal if you want an instant start, no pedal and you crank a bit. Don't have anything to do with filters or hoses, just the nature of the beast.

fo shizzle

i appreciate the replys and hell i dunno the 98 i had took a crank or two but not like this and the 94 was running as soon as you hit the key i kinda wouldn't mind this one bein like that if i can figure it out we'll see what larry b's fuel lines change then maybe it'll be timing time :)

hell i dunno both the other trucks were p7100's but come to think of it my buds 99 starts as soon as you hit the key but then again i have another bud with a 90 and it does too which leaves me out here starting like a power joke and we just can't have that now can we?:D

The 97 I just bought starts hard as well, if you give it very slight pedal it starts instantly. I was told the injection pump timing is off slightly. Way to many other issues to worry about with this truck to worry about that yet.

Rotary pumps: VE and VP44 start instantly. Inline pumps: P7100 may not. From what I've read it has something to do with the way the governor works. I always give my '95 a little pedal and don't worry about it.

Mine starts really quick without touching the go pedal, even when cold. But then cold here is usually no lower than freezing.
