I may have done something stupid, thinking along the line of bigger is better. When I purchased my TT I had to upgrade my hitch and Iput a hardened steel hitch ball rated at 30,000 pounds on. now I'm wondering if a hardened steel ball will wear through the the trailer tougne? I think I would rather replace a worn out ball than a tounge. any thoughts on this?

No. All balls are hardened, that's why they chrome them. Chrome is very hard. If they weren't hard they'd gaul and cause even more wear problems. You got nothing to worry about.

I used one for years with peace of mind because it was rated for way more than I was pulling. As mentioned I was generous with the greaase.

You think just like me bigger is better and you are ahead of the game on the trailer ball as far as safety. I agree with above to keep a little grease on them.

I recently got rid of an equalizing hitch I had used for over 20 years. Still with the original ball.

The hardened 2 5/16" tow balls rated at 30k lbs. are intended for goosenecks but won't hurt a thing to use for towing an ordinary trailer.

grease the ball? apparently you all have good grounds through you plugs lol. Just kidding, i just remember trying to figure out why i would lose my lights right befor a big trip and i relized i had greased it each time.
