I am happy to report that my hardlined wastegated turbo now produces 24 psi boost. I used a heavy spring and a piece of wire. It works well and can be removed very quickly. Anyone interested in the details?

Sorry for the delay.

I used a drum shoe keeper spring I found at the local Pep Boys. I think the size was 3/4 x 3 1/4. It is a really strong spring. Both ends of the spring are bent into loop like hooks. On one end I bent the loop backwards into a V shape. I hook that end onto the lever that comes out of the turbo that connects to the wastegate arm. I then ran a heavy piece of wire between turbo and the wastegate head. Where the head bolts onto the turbo. Hook the spring to that wire and pull and twist the wire to put tension on the spring. The spring cost me about $2.

Good Job Stakeman!!! You better be ready to show us this neat little gadget that you put together at our next meeting. . LOL

We may have to rig up something for KatDiesel. I hear that he is having problems with little old ladies passing him on the highway... LOL

Hey Stakeman -

I didn't see anything in the way of a boost module in your signature. What are you doing to prevent an overboost code?

<font color=blue>He has an EZ Edge, which has a boost module built into it.

Jeff
I will try to take a picture of it tommorow!

I have the EZ module. So far it looks relly good. EGT's have not gone over 600 post turbo yet. I have made a few WOT 0-60 runs. The real test is Eisenhour pass. I am hoping to keep it under 700 as I blast my way to the top.

Why not just take the wastegate acuator off, and MAKE it adjustable? It's way easy to do...

Just take it off the turbo, and grind downt he part thet is shot-peened. Don't grind it too much, just enough until you can unscrew the eyelet part. Then, remove the part with the eyelet in it, and put a nut on the rod. Then put the eyelet part back on, and then reinstall it on the turbo. The nut will be used as a jamnut. To adjust the amount of boost you get, you will need to lengthen/shorten the actuator rod. For MORE boost, shorten the rod. For LESS boost, lengthen the rod.

And there you have it, instant (almost) adjustable boost.

I could have done that, but this way I don't have to take anything apart and if I have to take it to a dealer. A simple pair of wire snips will un-bomb the wastegate. It is also adjustible, with a couple of pulls and twists on the wire i went from 24psi to 27psi.

FYI
The 86-87 GM Grand Nationals had the same adjustment Evan talks about for their turbos. About 1# per full revolution, easy to BOMB.
