Heading to Las Vegas This weekend (Dec. 3-6)

Winter Beater Problem

The term my buddys and I use is "Throttle-Jockeys"

It's a useless show of noise usually by the young and ignorant.

As for the quiet pipe legislation, watch the number of Motorcycles being run over by distracted Cage drivers soar if this comes to pass.

I had a REAL problem on my H-D Dresser with stock pipes/mufflers.

A 80 watt headlight and two 55 watt spot lamps while riding and I STILL had several "close encounters" every commute with morons who think that mirrors were put on the sides of their cars just for decoration.

Their common statement after I caught up with them at a light... ... "I didn't SEE you".

My usual comment back, "You didn't See me because you didn't LOOK".

I had a 5-foot-nothing cab driver get out like he was going to attempt to kick my butt after I pointed out that if he allowed me to insert his cellphone into a particular orifice that his driving might improve.

This was after he had almost run me into a curb two times in a one block distance by changing lanes.

I stood up, put the bike on the side stand, and he got back in his cab and vamoosed. :-laf

After putting the Vance & Hines mufflers on, it has reduced the incidents to only once or twice a week.

Ride like you're invisable.

That's exactly the way most drivers treat you.

I've always referred to it as a parking lot tune up. The faster they rev it, the better the tune up.

Noise legislation: its coming, like it or not. aftermarket manufacturers and dealers are gently being pursuaded to stop selling and installing "competition use only" or "off road use only" pipes for street bikes. next the local law dogs will be on your case with db meters enforcing the laws that have been on the ooks for decades but not enforced. Better yet, go try to take a ride on lake shore drive in Chicago with those loud pipes. Or do a "parking lot tune up" while in Datona for Biketoberfest next year. you'll find yourself the proud owner of a freshly written ticket.

In the offroad arena, stadium races have had it for years now (96db), and the outdoors are next. Why do you think the '06 Honda CRF250 has dual resonators? its not because they make more power or the bike any lighter :-laf

Honda's PR reps claim its to better balance the bike... . BAAaaahhhh!

From Shovelhead:[/I
]... ... "I didn't SEE you".

That's why I put on the extra loud Harley horn! If they can't see me, they'll hear me after a blast of the horn, most likely followed by a one-finger wave & some well deserved obscenities. :-laf Defensive driving has a whole different meaning on a bike...

I see it coming

Huh I can't hear you. What you say? The only reason I put aftermarker mufflers on my bike was to help the performance a little and give it a little more sound too. :D When we went to Sturgis last Aug. I don't know how many bikes passed us hauling *** and they were l-o-u-d. Some of them must ride with earplugs or they are deaf. And its not just Harleys now with the loud pipes.

Some times you just have to....

Drown out the Rap Music & Boom Boom Shish noise coming out of some pud kids truck or ricer car. DK.

Hurry and buy stock in Hearing Aid companies now before the rush.

All those Wanna-Be "Slim-Shadey"s out there are going to need them before they turn 30.
