Hi guys, just bought a 2003 H. O 4wd dually 6 speed with 4. 10 gears. It has a horrible pusatiing drone noise that starts at 60mph peeks at 62/63 mph and goes away over 70mph. read some old info on older threads but is there any new info or thoughts. Has 1500 miles on it now. Pulls badly right. Other wise no complaints. Has been getting 18 mpg normal driving anf just towed 8,000 lbs 500 miles at 70mph including 4 and 6 percent grades and averaged 11. 8 mpg. This noise is something else!At the peek of ot can feel in your seat and steering wheel. Wife says it feels like a massage tool if you know what I mean LOL:eek: Planning a trip to dealer in next day or so and would like any ifo if possable. Old truck is for sale.

Welcome to the club. I have the same vibration. I haven't brought it to the dealer yet. I've heard others say it's "normal', but I consider it a defect since the vibration falls right in the most commonly used speed range. If the vibration occured at 80mph I could understand that it was a problem that occured outside of normal operating paramaters.

We have put nearly 7000 miles on our truck in less than 2 months. We've taken some long trips and that vibration gets very annoying. It also encourages me to speed since I don't want to drive in the rough spot in the mid 60mph zone.

Its right at tow speed also. I cant and wont tow/drive 70 plus or 55 all day to stay away from that vibration. It makes this nice truck real annoying.

i put 315 on my truck with 373 and at 200 1900 rpms i am doing over 70 and i dont get that vibration. before tires 2200rpms and i was loosing feeling in my toes and fingers. my vibration with 11000 has gotten much better. this is the truth my clutch noise has also gone but now my drvier side door rattles and the window pops when i roll it up (anyone else?), so i am bringing it in this week. i will say this i love the truck better than any other vehicle. we just have a few bugs to work out.

my buddy just got his truck friday and he says "i get a vibration in my hands" i said "join the crowd". this is very disapointing if you would like to complain to DC here is the number 1-800-992-1997 i know i have complained.

I had a driveshaft out of balance that started a pulsating vibration at about 45mph. At 67mph coupled with the 2100rpm motor vibration, it was very annoying. When the dealership swapped driveshafts with another truck, it took care of the driveshaft vibration. The 2100rpm vibration has smoothed out to the point it doesn't even get my attention anymore.

My automatic with 4. 10 ratio puts 2100rpm at 67mph. It'll be at different speeds with different trannies and gear ratios.

The only vibration that gets my attention now is some launch shudder when I have our 5th wheel along for the ride.

I've heard lots of folks here say it's normal and that every CTD they've owned did it. Mine sure doesn't and neither did my 93.

At 70 mph, it's so smooth I can hardly tell it's running. I'd be happy to take anybody near me for a ride to compare.

The '01 we traded was perfectly smooth in that respect. There were no annoying vibrations coming through the steering wheel, pedals, and seat.

A friend was with me the other day and out of the blue asked if I had out of balance tires. I had never mentioned the problem to him so obviously it's very noticable on the trucks that have the prolem.

(buzz) vibration @ 2000 rpmm

my 03 3500 4x4 dually 3. 73 HO 6 spd has the annoying

vibration or buzz also. mine does it right at 2000 rpm.

in every gear. to me it sounds like something loose

rattleing against something. I thought it was my running

boards. then I thought it was my wind deflector. but I can't

find anything loose. I even checked out the exhaust system.

I can't figure it out yet. I have 15000 mi on it. I would say

it started doing that about 11000 miles. it never did it at first.

so if anyone finds out what it is I would sure like to know!

it probably won't hurt anything but it sure is annoying.

Mine comes in at 2100 RPM's, convinced now it is not my gauges on the stering column, but maybe the column itself?! If I drop the tilt to it's bottom most setting the noise is non existent, but I can't stand to drive it this way!! Will be calling D/C tomorrow if I get a chance ! Also will be complaining about my clutch disc and the pull to the right side of the road also! Anyone else have any luck curing these problems that I may have missed?! Anyone else try dropping their column and see what happens!?

I took my truck to the dealer and got the clutch disc replaced.

that took care of the rattle in neutral w/clutch out that I

thought was in the transmission. I asked the service manager

to take a ride with me and see if he knew what the buzz and

vibration noise was. he told me I don't have time very bluntly.

well if I ever trade again I don't think I'll have time to even

talk to them.

I haven't driven mine with the steering column all the way down

yet, but I will. you might be on to something.

This noise and vibration IS NOT in the steering column its two different things. Its either a exhaust resonate noise and a drive-line vibration. You cant take the steering column OFF and it would still be there.

I just crawled under mine and checked the cv, slip, carrier, and yokes. I noticed the transfer case rear yoke has a rubber dampend harmonic balancer. This means the engineers know there is a problem and put a BAND-AID ( harmonic balancer) on the rear drive shaft to lessen the vibration. The placement of the balancer would indicate the problem is with the transfer case ( which looks like it should be on a Suzuki Samuri ) as it is ahead of the front u-joint.

Balancing this type of drive line would be very difficult. The sections must be dissasembled and balanced seperatly with the yoke / balancer left unbalanced and reassembled and not balanced as a unit.

Not being a ME this is JMHO

Just brought my '03 to the dealer today for the vibration. Can't wait to hear what they have to say. I won't accept "normal' for an answer. A vibration which can be felt by the driver and passenger at normal operating speeds (65-70mph) cannot be considered normal. It certainly isn't something that was "designed into" the product as a "feature".

I was told things from normal to a turbo hum to possible power steering lines hum rub cold etc. ITS not when cold,its all the time and the roar/resonate noise happens in neutral and the vibration is at 67 to 69 mph. Turbos dont boost in neutral etc. I think Two problems something out of balance in driveline,reason for vibrationm and pulsating noise at 67 to 69 mph as well as exhaust resonate. :-{}

Just got word. The mechanic didn't notice anything, but "normal" road noise:rolleyes: I have to make another appoinment to drive with the mechanic.

hey dp

do you still have your 93 was it. You bought a service manuel from me. I may be interested in your other truck. Pm me if you want please understand though I am online now about 1 time a week. Thanks.

I'm sure you all remember what a dry speedometer cable

sounds like. that's the same kind of noise I'm hearing at

2000 rpm. only not as severe. but that's what it sounds

like to me. I don't think it is though cause the speedometer

and tach are both electronic. I'm stumped.

If you think that transfer case belongs in a Samuri, you obviously are not a ME. That transfer case will handle all you can throw at it with that diesel.

That transfer case is HUGE!! I have an Advanced Adapters Atlas II in my Ford Explorer and the unit in the Dodge is at least 1/3 larger than the Atlas.
