Yes, mine gets a lot worse with A/C on. I can find the drone with my right foot and hear it and then hit the snowflake and it get a lot louder. I bet if more people tried this they would find the same thing. Mine is so noticable that if I find the right rpm range and start the A/C I can hear the compressor cycling on and off.

Mine goes in on Wednesday for the door adjustment and I will bring this up. I'm sure it is "normal" though.

Mine drones too, A/C on or off. It is just a little louder with the A/C on. Maybe there is another issue here, but I really don't think so. The sound is the same only a little louder, in the same rpm range so I think they are surely related. Who knows, DC sure as heck doesn't.

I think you are right. It probably just changes the tone a little bit. I sure hope they come up with a fix for this and send it to the dealers. Dealers are way too good at playing dumb and acting like you are the first one to mention this problem. That is what my dealer said about the wandering on my '01 and we all know it was very widespread.

Drone is gone

My drone is now gone. I had two injectors replaced (#1 and #2). Also at the same time I rerouted my positive battery cable and control wires where they where touching the air intake plastic pipe from the air cleaner. I'm starting to think the bad injectors coupled with the vibrating air intake was creating the drone in my truck, (basically buzzing the wires)

(sounds nuts I know).

I am still awaiting the new weighted hydro boost hose to arrive to take care of my vibration problem in the steering wheel, but the drone is gone!

I would tell everybody to suspect your injectors and air intake!!

Must be talking about a differant noise. This noise(drone)is EXHAUST HARMONICS. Not a BUZZ. Its when you GET ON THE PIPE. Peak H. P. range if you know what I mean. This aint something rubbing.

Mine was truly a drone. It never sounded like rubbing or buzzing. Every time, right at 2100 rpm, the drone repeated. It corresponded with a vibration thru the steering wheel. I think we have the vibration figured out now (I hope), but the drone was real, and yes I agree, a harmonics issue. Somewhere between my dealer tying down my hydro boost hoses, me moving cables away from the intake, and the dealer replacing the two injectors, the drone has gone away in the 2000-2300 rpm range. :)

I am supposed to pick up my new truck tomorrow so I will be looking hard to see if it makes this drone/vibration.

From the signatures in this thread I predominantly saw 4x4 trucks so I was wondering what kind of transfer cases does everyone with this problem have?

I read in Big MAK’s sticky at the top of this forum that There are two choices for transfer cases - the NVG271 and the NVG273. The 271 is a manual shift version, the 273 is an electronic push-button version.

annoying noise

well I finally fixed my noise problem. nobody seemed to know

what it was. I posted earlier about it. I thought it was an

injector, but dealer said no. something about power steering

hoses transfering noise through the steering column.

but I finally fixedit myself. if you want to know how I did it

read my signature.

I thought I changed my signature but it didn't work.

anyhow I traded the noise off and now have an 04 Dodge

3500 drw laramie w/the 48re HO 4x4 3:73 gears and now

I have a big job changing everything from the 03 to the 04.

but so far no funny noise.

I had two '03s and I had no Vibe/Buzz in the wheel/pedals. One truck was a 2500 Q/C 4X4 SB SO/47re with 4. 10's and the other was 2500 reg cab 4X4 HO/48re with 3. 73's.

Now, I go and take delivery of my '04 2500 Q/C 4X4 SB HO/48re with 4. 10's and I HAVE the buzz/vibe in the wheel  . I am glad I'm not alone but I want a fix.

I've got a ging, ging, ging sound [maybe a bearing] at about

1600 rpm or 50-60 mph with throttle, after that ok. Theres no

vibration at any speed. I installed a Gear Vendors OD at 2k,but I don't remember hearing it before the install. I gotta say so far this OD is the ticket for a 4. 10 ,6 speed.

Just wondering if anybody else has had this situation. I'm inclined to think the driveshaft angles are off . I've shimed the C bearing to the same degree of the [newly shortened shaft].

Have considered a 1 pc driveshaft, might be to long though with a quad cab.
