2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Harness...D/C or Cummins Part?

Is the engine electrical harness... the big one along the drivers side of the engine a Chrysler part or a Cummins part? I am refering to the bundle of wires which, among many other things, has the VP control wires and plug coming out of it.



I'm on track to replace my VP here cause its causing its the prime suspect in a rough running engine (Cummins shop has analyzed it twice and this is what they feel). The previous owner has tampered with some of the wires while installing a power module. And he didn't do a very neat job so to speak. So I would like to replace the harness so none of the wires are compromised in any way. I know this sounds like I'm being a little picky... but thats how I am with everything on this truck. Just my nature I guess. I'm sure it aint cheap... but what is?



I also have a little problem with my delay wipers. I have 4 or so positions on delay mode but they are all the same speed... the fast setting. Maybe the switch? Hopefully. Thanks for any replys.

ncostello, I believe that is a Cummins Part, I Now that we have replaced a couple a our shop in Ft Worth.

Is it a difficult process to replace it? Seems like it would just be plug and unplug. Of course I think it would be somewhat tough trying to make a new harness make all the right turns and such. At least I know its possible. Thanks.

I've never replaced a harness on a Ram but have on other rigs, it's harder than it seems it would be. Main problem I've had is some connectors are difficult to get at and pull apart, they're made to be put together more than taken apart. You can buy a connector removal tool from an auto parts store cheap that will help greatly. Remember to use di-electric grease on the connections to keep moisture and corrosion out.

Try these numbers, they are the part numbers when the new style harness came out. I think that means 1 50 pin connector to the ECM instead of separate plugs.

I had all the wiring under the hood replaced in an attempt to fix a torque converter problem. The Chrysler part numbers (for a 1999 Ram Diesel/Automatic) areas follows:

5016189AB-Wiring

56045265AF-Wiring-Headlamp to Dash

56045481-Wiring



The text on the work order stated that one of the prts was "engine harness", one was the "front-end wiring" and the last one was "from the J tec to the trans to the engine"



Sorry I don't know which part number is for which harness. Anyone else??
