I am pretty disturbed about the NRA, specifically Wayne LaPierre buddying up to Prince Harry. This was seen recently at the new range in Clark County, Nevada. While Harry gets good grades from the NRA because of his record on gun issues, he is a toady of the most liberal, anti-gun administration ever. I really doubt all the "A's" from the NRA will mean a hill of beans if Obama says, "Vote this way".

My point is, the NRA should not support or endorse a politician who is in lock step with an anti-gun administration even if he has, so far, voted fairly pro-gun. I wrote an email to the NRA today stating that if they do not drop support for Reid in the upcoming election, I will be dropping my support for the NRA. By supporting Reid, they are effectively supporting Obama.

I would respectfully suggest that all NRA members do the same, and if you have one of those wolf-in-sheep's-clothing politicians in your area, include them too. I know the NRA is the biggest pro-gun lobbying group around, but that doesn't mean they're right all the time. Thanks!

I, too, have been reading unfavorable things about the NRA more and more recently. Just last week, I received an urgent update from a local Iowa gun rights organization which is VERY upset with the NRA right now.

It seems there are high-paid NRA lobbiests falsely claiming to represent Iowa gun owners and to speak for them regarding some critical legislation and are actually selling out to the anti-2nd amendment coalition in our state legislature while, as the group puts it: "Actual Iowa gun owners and citizens can only watch helplessly from outside the capitol with our noses pressed to the window. "

Thanks for the update. I did not know my NRA dollars went to support the likes of Harry Reid in any way shape or form. Easy enough to end that... Reid has already sold his own soul, and our Rights mean far less than that to him.

The AMA (American Mortorcycle Association) is infamous for operating like that, too. They arrive at a state capital, announce they are The Chosen Ones for all things Motorcycle, and then sell us out, all the while stealing our AMA dues money which we must pay to race. We actively seek out non-AMA tracks, but they are few and far between.

im going to chime in here and probably not a good idea since im not feeling that great but hey, no time like the present. I agree, if the truth be known and sounds and looks like it is coming out little by little about how HC got passed i can only imagine what will happen next, very disgusting and not how this country was founded not on back room deals. .
As far as my guns go, "over my dead body" i have never seen nor heard of such arrogance from a administration, like them saying well this is how "WE" are going to do it and your gonna like it. . I guess they have forgotten or think that most pple forgot how this country was founded and that this crap is not tolerated.
How hard would it be(im asking alot) to take all the good aspects of HC and make a bill, sounds simple i know... but with the interest groups and the "i'll scratch urs if you'll scratch mine" attitude, makes me wonder what they are really scratching up in D. C. Just my nickle thought.

I am willing to wait for a response from the NRA before cancelling. Even then, it will be a hard decision because I do agree with most of what they do. Their offices need to be flooded with similar concerns before we all pull out of the organization. Let them have a chance to make it right.

The NRA is too willing to compromise too often. They actually supported the Veterans' Disarmament Act. They spent years rightfully complaining about the McCain Feingold Act and are now happily announcing it has been overturned by the Supreme Court. But last presidential election they were supporting anti-gun McCain of anti-gun McCain Lieberman fame. Had they endorsed pro gun rights Dr. Paul early in the campaign we might have a real president now. When McCain became the Republican nominee, they could have endorsed Bob Barr, who happens to sit on the NRA board of directors and was completely ignored by the NRA. As a third party candidate Bob Barr would not have won, but at least it would not have sent the message to the Republican party, "Nominate anyone you want and no matter how weak his stand on gun rights, we'll support him. "

I haven't followed Reid's voting record that closely, but it seems gun rights may be the only issue on which he has been on the correct side. Gun owners should not alienate him and push him to the other side. If I met him in a bar, I wouldn't mind spending some time talking to him, but I doubt I would buy him a drink.

harry's from Nevada, and if you're anti-gun in Nevada, you can't even get a dog-catcher badge pinned on you. Even harry's smart enough to figure this out. It doesn't mean it's anything he's passionate about... quite the contrary, I imagine his position with other democrats is "work with me on this," as in help me not get embarrassed by this.

Yep, that's about it. Harry has been "in our corner" in the past, but I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him to stick that way. Nevada is becoming more and more like California, especially in Vegas. Reno is slowly sliding blue. The rest of the state is pretty solid red, but there just aren't enough people in the cow counties to make a difference. I'm sure Harry is waiting patiently for the tipping point where he's sure he can't be defeated, no matter what. We'll do the best we can (as REAL Nevadans), but there are more and more gimmee gimmee people out there. In the mean time, I'll continue to bug the NRA and see what response I get.

I recently joined the NRA again. I was a member about 18 years ago and let it expire because of all the junk mail they send. I joined again because of the Obama agenda. I debated between NRA and GOA because I heard that NRA is too compromising. In the end, I went to NRA because it's more powerful. I may be second guessing my decision though.
